Red Leader Posted October 11, 2024 Report Posted October 11, 2024 Check it out: 1968 Mooney Mustang - aviation - by owner - airplane aviation parts - craigslist If you cannot open the link, here is what it says: 1968 Mooney Mustang M-22 PRESSURIZED 5-Seat Single Engine. 310/Hp Lycoming TIO-541, 222/kt Max speed at 25,000’ 1100-TTAF/E $125K The ad doesn't say what, if anything, is needed to be airworthy, nor does it have any pictures. As much as I would like to have a plane with the performance of the Mustang, I am unlikely to purchase an M22 knowing there is next to no factory support. I am also unaware of a supply line on the secondary market for used parts which makes a purchase such as this potentially unwise. Thoughts? Quote
Schllc Posted October 11, 2024 Report Posted October 11, 2024 The guys that own them don’t seem to feel that way, but if I recall correctly, the engine is somewhat orphaned. I have never seen on in person, but everything that I have read suggests that its a very well built machine. Quote
Will.iam Posted October 11, 2024 Report Posted October 11, 2024 Don Maxwell has one in his hanger that I got to see as they were doing a restore project on it. If anybody can keep a mustang flying it would be the Maxwells. Give him a call he might have even done an annual on that very plane. I was surprised at how big that turbo is on it and with the oleo struts it's a tall mooney in person. 1 Quote
GeeBee Posted October 12, 2024 Report Posted October 12, 2024 I am not sure if it was the one over at KCVC. Visually not too bad. Quote
varlajo Posted October 13, 2024 Report Posted October 13, 2024 (edited) https://www.hangar67.com/aircraft/1968-mooney-m22-mustang/32013 One owner between 2006-2023, but last ownership only lasted a year, it seems. I think the biggest issue will be avionics upgrades. I doubt any modern autopilots, for example, are approved. G3X and GTN650Xi are. Last flight in 2017? Edited October 13, 2024 by varlajo Quote
RoundTwo Posted October 13, 2024 Report Posted October 13, 2024 It’s only 45 minutes away from me. Maybe I need to go take some pictures and post them here about 1 per week, just to mess with y’all. 3 1 Quote
Utah20Gflyer Posted October 13, 2024 Report Posted October 13, 2024 I think some of the qualifications of a M22 owner would be first an evangelical desire to keep a rare Mooney flying. If you want a pressurized plane to travel the country buy a Malibu or P210. Second a lot of experience in aircraft maintenance and sourcing parts. This is not a plane you can drop off at your neighborhood mechanic and pick it up the next week. Last, a very high ability to navigate regulations and a talent for justifying minor changes as well as major alterations via 337s. Quote

I would not be surprised if the Georgia area Craigslist Ad was an error post for the same plane in the wrong region, and it is now listed correctly in NM. I hope it goes to someone who will also keep it airworthy. Quote
A64Pilot Posted December 7, 2024 Report Posted December 7, 2024 Ref parts, Thank God we can make our own via OPP, there really isn’t much you can’t build or have built, $$$ and time would be the issue. I have a friend that “restored” the only flying XP-82, takes money, time and skill, but one man built it, another can rebuild it. Not me though Quote
