GregF Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 I mount it on the passenger yoke, on an angle so I can see it. I can't make anything else work.

mulro767 Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 I either have mine on my knees or up on the glareshield when not in terminal enviroment. It fits nicely between glareshield and Rosen Visor. There's just no other place I can squeeze it at it's current size.
bnicolette Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 When I'm using my iPad, I have it mounted on the glareshield and I really like that position. I am working on a way to mount it to where the passenger handle is though as I don't want the indentation of the clamp to be permanent on my glareshield.

jnisley Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 The ram yoke mount works quite well for me, it does block the lower part of the DG a little but I never even thought of it until I took the photo. It's also in the way a little when writing clearences etc. (I use an aluminum folding lap desk.)
FlyDave Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 I have an iPad I and use it with a leg strap: http://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/product/16151 This keeps it from blocking the view of anything in the panel and provides a flat place to put a pad of paper to copy clearances. It also keeps the iPad out of the sun and the leg strap exposes enough of the body of the iPad to help keep it cool. Apple is supposed to be coming out with a smaller form factor iPad later this year. I haven't upgraded from the iPad 1 because I'm hoping this smaller iPad will fit on the yoke better than the current size. This would be great except that the polarization of the current iPad screens render it unreadable with polarized sunglasses in portrait mode. I'm hoping they change that (as I understand they did on the iPhone) on the smaller unit.
carusoam Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 I got a leg strap for Christmas... Better to have it tied down....... -a-
bnicolette Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 kerry, that's the coolest spot yet!! How the heck are you keeping it up there?
OR75 Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 Kerry ... I believe the iPad impacts the compass deviation quite a bit
OR75 Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 I made my own holder from aluminum sheet, using rivenuts and Ram mounts (+ flet to avoid scratching the ipad). The ipad fits nicely almost flat between the Mooney yoke (J model) to not block the view of DG / AI. I will try to take pictures next hangar visit.
kerry Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 I made it out of a leather ipad case, a clamp, a little velcro and a few rivets. The ipad does not affect my compass when it's in the mount.
OR75 Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 Strange. I was just looking at different options yesterday including attaching to the cental post. But my compass swingged when i got the ipad close to it. It did not surprise me thinking many ipad covers are magnets based to turn off the screen and such. Maybe it is further than it looks on the picture.
kerry Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 It is some what away from compass. I have it angled onto the head liner. I'm looking up at screen trying to reduce glare and aslo get the best visibility out the front wind shield.
lahso Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 I use this: http://www.theavpad.com. It provides a spot for my iPad and a notepad, as well as, pockets for pens, accessories, charts, etc. Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in this company, but the owner, Mike Ladd, is a friend of mine.
TonyPynes Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Quote: fantom I have been using foreflight, on my ipad 1 - and just plunking down on my knee - the black original ipad 1 case has some friction to it and it works okay. But I don't like so much having my head down - sometimes I pick it up and hold it forward during an approach so that I can see it without putting my head down, then I put it down when I am done looking at whatever number I wanted to see, etc. I have been waiting waiting for a 7'' ipad. I was very disappointed when ipad 3 was still 10''. I am not going to upgrade just for a better screen. I want smaller! Sorry Apple I think you are missing my boat - So late last month I purchased a 7'' Samsung Galaxy tab android device. It is really cute and seems pretty robust. But I have not yet found anything I like aviation wise that runs on it. Garmin Pilot promises to run on it but not yet released for 7'' - soon I expect and I think this will be the solution. WingX has an android version but it is greatly inferior and wingx pro 7 wasn't my favorite anyway. I will mount the 7'' on my yoke.
Cabanaboy Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 i use a Knee Dock, only cost $29 works great, easy on and off. http://www.mypilotstore.com/MyPilotStore/sep/8351
231flyer Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Our Mooneys come with a great pre-mounted attach plate for the iPad. Simply remove the screw holding the lower hand strap on the co-pilot A pillar and attach a Ram or other base. The mount is very sturdy and will keep your iPad in your normal scan without obscuring any of the engine instruments/CBs etc.
Bolter Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 The lates AOPA magazine has an article on the new FlyQ app. They state in the artical that the Android version is due this summer. As a used of the Voyager setup with a PC based tablet, and android phone user, I look forward to this too. -dan Quote: AustinPynes

bnicolette Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 Jim, I used the following mount. I used the existing screw that was holding the handle in on the bottom of the handle: http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045066045050048050085/Default.aspx If you need any further information or pictures, please let me know. 231flyer.......Thanks again. I have tried multiple mounting locations and this one is a keeper! I went out flying tonight and found it to be a perfect mounting solution.
