Marahute Posted March 12, 2024 Report Posted March 12, 2024 Just about to become a first-time owner, really nice M20J. ~600 hours, but alas absolutely zero in Mooney. CFI who was going to check me out is now unavailable. Anyone in the TTN / N87 / PNE area up for the challenge? Quote
Danb Posted March 12, 2024 Report Posted March 12, 2024 There are quite a few Mooney experts in your area, check out the Mooney Flyer for a listing of all the Mooney instructors Quote
CCAS Posted March 12, 2024 Report Posted March 12, 2024 Have you tried contacting the folks at Air Mods Flight Training Center at N87? https://www.airmodsflightcenter.com They checked me out in my 201 about four years ago and the local expertise with the Mooney Service Center was helpful. Quote
Marahute Posted March 12, 2024 Author Report Posted March 12, 2024 That's where I'm buying the plane from! No instructors available, but I have found someone nearby. Thx! Quote

Marahute Posted March 12, 2024 Author Report Posted March 12, 2024 It was David Duvak. He's booked until almost the end of the month. Quote

If he is that busy and that highly regarded, he would be the one I'd want. Your insurance company will want someone with a certain number of hours in type. But someone with a lot of Mooney experience, rather than just the minimum, will be worth the wait. Quote

When I bought my C with 52 hours in my logbook, my insurance agent actually recommended a CFI, and using him reduced the required hours. Most were 20 dual plus 10 solo, but using "their guy" it was only 15 hours dual including 5 hours actual / simulated IMC. Quote

He actually has choices living in that part of the country. John Pallante and Bud Johnson are also in his area. Both I believe were (are?) Mooney Safety Board Members with lots of hours. 1 Quote
