X3 Demand Conservers above 180

For the last few years, I've used the X3 Demand Conserver and boom cannula at 18 and below and a direct flow Aerox mask above 18. My Aerox masks need an overhaul at this point, so I'm wondering if it's worth spending the money on them vs. buying the PreciseFlight mask that works with the X3 Demand Conserver. The only documentation I've found is the SR22 doc below (page 19) which indicates that the X3 should be set to "Constant" above 18,000 ft. Does that mean that the "conserver" feature is bypassed here? Or will I actually save oxygen vs. the direct flow mask? Obviously it's cheaper to rebuild my existing masks, but if I can save oxygen, I may consider buying the PreciseFlight mask. It's also kinda nice that the PreciseFlight mask doesn't have a bag, but that alone wouldn't justify the cost.

Unrelated question, but does anyone know if there's an adapter for the SkyOx system such that it would work with a Scott connector? I still have a SkyOx system that I've had from when I was still flying a J, and I'd like to carry it was a backup without carrying redundant O2 equipment.

The constant flow is just that, it does not conserve o2. I don’t understand why any mask wouldn’t work with the system as long as it had the correct hose attachments. 
I have had the system in two ultras and a regular acclaim and use the, in my legacy acclaim as well. 
aerox can configure pretty much any connection you need m they changed the precise flight connectors to Scott on my conservers.

I have an older X3 Conserver (green colored - current ones are blue).  That is what the documentation says - you must switch to a mask and turn to "Constant" above 18,000 ft.  Then you adjust the dial for altitude (18K, 20K, 22K or 25K) which adjusts the constant flow rate to a rate appropriate for that altitude.  The Conserve - pulse on demand feature - only works below 18,000 ft.  The Precise Flight mask provides no additional capability and does not conserve O2.  Save your money.

Gig 'em! I had (and still have) the portable SkyOx 4-place setup. I think I only used it a few times in my J...may or may not be worth the cost.

Thank you! Aerox masks are in the mail for overhaul. Still pricey @ $179 each, but definitely beats buying new masks.

Thanks! My favorite part is the ghosted Mooney logo on the wing..which you can't see here. Need a drone to capture it. Mostly the previous owner's paint scheme, but I got rid of the red above the lighting bolt. Mike Vincent @ J&M Aviation does great work. I'm thinking a flat black 4-blade MT prop along with a flat black spinner would make a nice addition.....

For amusing reference, FAR 23.1447 which is about oxygen delivery systems has a requirement that any cannulas can only be certified below 18,000'.   Therefore all of the manufacturers of certified cannulas prohibit their use above 18,000'.   So if you have a certified cannula, you are prohibited from using it above 18,000'.   

 

HOWEVER:  Use of uncertified cannulas or other oxygen delivery systems is probably not prohibited so you could probably just put the end of the tube in your mouth and breathe in through that.
