hais Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 Playing with chatGPT, I uploaded this photo, and this was the analysis. Would someone put this model on a TPU where the GoPros are mounted and pipe the analysis through the headset? I bet it can figure out you did not lower the landing gear.... 1 Quote
ArtVandelay Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 Did you read the disclaimer? Quote
Sue Bon Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 It's confused actual altitude with selected altitude. And... 73kt tailwind... Wow! Where was that? Quote
Joshua Blackh4t Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 So the dangerous part is that it's pretty close. But as pointed out, it got the altitude wrong, AND then incorrectly read the backup altimeter and said it agrees. 1 Quote

That was over the mountains in Oregon. It was quite a blast and I kept feeling sorry for all the poor souls that were flying the opposite direction. 2 2 Quote

But imagine a device that understand any panel configuration - that's easy to scale, and doesn't interface to any systems... Even without improved accuracy, it would be useful. And it is not controlling anything, just pointing out potential issues. Quote

And then it tells you that you're at 8000 feet confirmed by 2 instruments. My point is that AI is designed to hide its limitations. The opposite of what we need in planes 1 Quote
hais Posted October 30, 2023 Author Report Posted October 30, 2023 I gave it RNAV 10 approach plate into FCM and ask this question: Quote

On my way back over to the valley about 2 weeks ago I had a 47kt headwind that bounced up in the 50's for a bit. That was the longest flight over the mountains ever! Your waypoint was Turno, so you were headed towards the valley as well!??! Dang that isn't very common to get a tailwind like that. Excellent planning sir! Quote

Justin Schmidt Posted November 1, 2023 Report Posted November 1, 2023 As a software engineer, I will say that crap is like Miss Cleo, For entertainment purposes only. Really, I wouldn't even use it for that Quote

But even with that, appears you get different models with different capabilities from session to session. 1 Quote
CChris Posted November 3, 2023 Report Posted November 3, 2023 I agree it is not ready for real-life use, especially in such a critical operation as flying, but it will get there sooner rather than later. Foreflight already leverages machine learning in a few app features and I wouldn't doubt that they are experimenting and piloting Gen AI to alleviate pilot workload and bring situational awareness. 1 Quote
