Took me a couple days wearing progressives to not feel nauseous.  Now I like them a lot except playing ball sports or occasionally when I look down walking dogs and have the wave in wave out dizzy effect.  Sucks getting old, but alternative is...

I have worn progressives for MANY years.  Too late for most here, but the best advice I had was to get them AS SOON AS YOU NEED ANY READER CORRECTION.  It is easier to get used to them with the minimal correction.

With progressives you don't need to measure anything.  You just tilt your head to get the proper focal distance for what you are looking it.  They are cut to deal with very close and small things, and everything in between can be focused on.

I do not understand those who had depth perception and flying or driving issues.  You should not be looking through the progressive portion when looking past arms length.  They may had made the transition too high.  The upper portion is no different than bifocals.

Another thing I have found it is good to have  relationship with a good optometrist, NOT one of the box store/chains.  I have had the same guy for 40 years.  He KNOWS my eyes.

I really appreciate all the advice, and especially  Pinecones advice about having a good relationship with the optometrist-

The one that is making my current first try at progressives really took time to understand what my sight needs were.

I only wish I was aware of the Shamir lenses- those sound perfect.

What I have noticed after wearing glasses for 47yrs.

I can now magically read better without my glasses.  This was never the case till maybe 4-5yrs ago.

I have progressives.  The first set was from a semi witch doctor.  The second set was from a top notch ophthalmologist.  They work good for a computer and some other things but if I need focus I take glasses off and get close.  But mostly I hate them.  I thought it was the witch doctor but going to the good guy didn’t make it any better (he was at least honest that it wasn’t going to get much better).

I guess my point is all our eyes go wonky (along with knees, backs, necks, etc.) in our 40’s but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of similarities (given we all wrecked our bodies in dissimilar ways).

I have a cousin in her 30’s, my brother in his 40’s, and a friend in his 40’s.  LASIK and the other varieties of irradiating your eyeballs hasn’t worked great for any of them.  In the case of my cousin she is 33 and on round 2 with worse vision than me at 53.  Could be a lot of things but my experience has been the alternatives to glasses give great short term results but the long term is not so great.

That little list of complaints is nothing when you get old.

You are really old, I am just mostly old, I aspire though to get really old.

Within each brand, there are different products at difference price points. Get the premium versions - they will be better. There are subtle differences between brands, but less so at the premium level.
