FlyingVAce Posted October 11, 2023 Report Posted October 11, 2023 Dumb question : will a 760 fit in the same holder as the 796 I have and work? If not advise what mods I'll need to do. Don't like cabin clutter so I have avoided an ipad. Quote
Vance Harral Posted October 11, 2023 Report Posted October 11, 2023 I don't own either unit, and I guess it depends on what "holder" you have. But it seems unlikely you'd be able to re-use a 796 holder with a 760. The two units have different physical dimensions (8.0x5.1x1.5" vs. 7.29x4.85x0.91”), and they use different power connectors. Marc_B Posted October 12, 2023 Report Posted October 12, 2023 I’ve had both. Different connections and different “footprint”. You’d need an appropriate base and connections for whatever unit you decide to use. Quote

The 796 was good, but the 760 is lighter and better in my opinion. I've had mine for 3 years and use it on every flight. I just got back from a cross country from Florida to California with a new student who purchased an Ovation. The Ovation had a GNS 530. I never opened a paper chart, although I had them all with me. With airways included, it was easy to load them on the 760, then add them to the 530 without having to look at a chart. Also, the Visual Approaches proved very useful. It comes with a new cradle. Surprisingly, Garmin cheaped out and didn't include a case. You will need to buy one from Garmin. The cover is light and much better than supplied with previous models. It will require a GDL5X for weather and traffic. Quote

If you mean the AirGizmos panel dock, which I think you do in looking at your panel (https://www.aircraft.com/aircraft/223079893/n335bb-1983-mooney-m20j-201), no it won’t. You’ll need the one specifically made for the 760 and the power/data for that model. (https://www.airgizmos.com/760-Panel-Dock®_p_83.html) I would install that with an angle adaptor which makes it easier to see from the pilot’s seat (https://www.airgizmos.com/625-x-8-inch-Angle-Adapter_p_13.html) You have a very special Mooney that belonged to @Bennett 2 Quote
