good2eat Posted July 4, 2023 Report Posted July 4, 2023 I’m told fretting on the engine case is beyond spec for repair so I’m on the hunt for a case. Anyone have any leads out there? Quote

Anyone have any leads out there? Send it to Nickson’s machine shop in Santa Maria CA. They will fix it. They will machine the fretting off the case halves and then rebore the cam and crank bores. Divco will do the same thing. Let them decide if they can make them airworthy or not. 1 Quote

Hmmm, assuming Dennis Leal still runs the place: https://www.dol.gov/newsroom/releases/ebsa/ebsa20140820 Quote

He runs the place. The engine shop here at KCHD recommended them. Said they were better than DIVCO. My cases came back looking factory new. Rudy called me a few times during the work to discuss what they found and what they were doing. I was very happy with their work. Quote
good2eat Posted July 5, 2023 Author Report Posted July 5, 2023 Thanks for the replies - engine builder is well know for quality work - Premier in Troutdale, OR. The case was sent out for repair and was told due the the fretting it was out of spec? Thus the search for a case. Thoughts I should be aware of ? - first go around with this for me so the knowledge and experience of this community is fantastic! Quote
KSMooniac Posted July 5, 2023 Report Posted July 5, 2023 I'm guessing used cases are in short supply, as I've had a few unsolicited emails from Divco over the last year looking for cases they could buy! When I overhauled in the 2014-2015 time frame, I had a good used case from my salvage plane (220 SMOH) that I tried to sell for a few weeks and got no interest. I ended up selling it to Divco for $500 in credit off their work for me on my case... I expect they in turn sold it for a couple thousand. Who knows what they're worth today. If you do find a used one, get it measured by a builder/shop to see how much "life" is left in it. Only so much material can be machined off the mating surfaces before it is used-up, so if it has been through a few OH cycles it might not be a good buy if you plan to keep your plane for a long time. jetdriven Posted July 8, 2023 Report Posted July 8, 2023 I called Aircraft specialties and Divco and they both did not have any cases....they didn't even know when they were gonna get any more cases and they were selling them for between $5500 and $6000. They offered me $500 for my 400 hour roller case and I politely told them no. Those have a list price of nearly 7 grand and a two-year backlog and that's if everything goes right I guess somebody will need it. Hopefully not me. Quote
T C Posted Friday at 03:49 AM Report Posted Friday at 03:49 AM I have an IO-360-A3B6D that I removed in September because it was consuming 1 qt/hr. I think the #3 cylinder is suspect. It has ~1700 Hrs SMOH. Call me if your interested. I have it listed on Barnstormers for $13,000 and I'm located in OK. Quote
