I have a Garmin 496 with XM weather mounted on my pilot yoke (the Ram mount goes under the yoke as running it on top blocks the panel). Has anyone yoke-mounted a Garmin 796 or 696? If so, could you send me photos, it looks like there 's not enough room, but I would like to upgrade if I could make it fit?

The 696 is a little big but works, I put it on the Co-pilot yoke turn where I can see it on my J. I think the 796 is smaller and I would prefer a little smaller.

I have the Ifly 720 and I mounted it on the co-pilot yolk.   I have not yet flown with it yet. but it seems to work fine there even though it seems a little intrusive on the co-pilot's space.  They will just have to deal with it.

I looked at the 696 and 796 and found that most owners have it installed on copilot side panel or yoke. If you try it on the pilot (vertical) side it will block your HSI view and maybe the ADI. If you try it horizontal it will block the HSI view only, but will limit your access to grab the yoke handle. Because it will only fit in front of the yoke you can not have a belly like mine, otherwise you will be rubbing it. Because of these issues I opted for the Aera 560. It fits nicely behind the yoke (with custom made bracket) without blocking instruments view and have excellent access even during turbulence. I use either my finger nails or plastic pen for screen entries. On the 796 touch screenyou can only use your fingers but will not work with a pen which is a drawback when wearing gloves, because will not work with gloves either. I have the 560 connected to an external GPS antenna and have the XM installed underneath the glareshield with all the wiring going inside the yoke shaft. Having the 560 close to me gives me a better perspective view and access than a panel mount GTN-750.

I have the 696 attached to a ram mount. I can live without my 530W and alot of my other toys but will not give up the 696. If you look at my gallery there is a pic on it. A little big but so worth it.

696 on the Yoke.  I'm 5-7 so it blocks a little of the panel if I'm not sitting up straight, but I love it still after 2 year.
