Matt M Posted January 9, 2023 Report Posted January 9, 2023 I looked back and there are lots of previous threads regarding sealant for windows. SM calls for PR1403-GB2 or PRC1321-B neither of which I can find readily for sale. I have seen that a lot of people have used Flamemaster CS3330-B2. Skygeek seems to sell it. Thoughts? Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted January 9, 2023 Report Posted January 9, 2023 Any of those sealants should be effective. The 3330 would be a good choice. Quote
jetdriven Posted January 10, 2023 Report Posted January 10, 2023 PR1425B2 dries a glossy black. It's what Beechcraft uses for their windows. Cheyennes also use it. Quote

Expand You may have already researched these sealants but, if not: The (typically) 4-digit number specifies the chemical properties, and the properties of the material after it sets up. The letter is "class" (class A or class B). Class A is typically applied with a brush. Class B is typically applied with a gun or a spatula. The number following the class is application time in hours, after which the sealant can no longer be brushed for class A, or gunned for class B. Application times assume 77 dF at 50% humidity. Higher humidity will reduce the application time. Lower temperatures or lower humidity will extend the application time. Mixing ratios vary depending on the specific product. The ratio of the two parts for some products are based on volume, others by weight. The tubes (looks like a miniature tube of bathtub caulk) are easier because the two parts are pre-measured. You mix the two parts in the tube just before use. You need either a purpose-built gun, or there are some articles on the web describing how to modify a regular caulking gun. Tack free time is much longer than application time (a day or two). Unless you are a pro, get the 2-hour stuff. 1 Quote

I figure one tube a window since I’ll be time limited with the drying time of the sealant. $500 for sealant seems insane to me. Quote

Expand Yeah, to seal the perimeter of windshields for nonpressurized Aircraft we use the equivalent which is CS 3247 it's about a third of the price 1 Quote
