Hospital is about a mile from there too so they didn't have to go far - several near the area -- Plano Presbyterian is about 3 miles...

We've had LIFR and IFR in the area the last couple of days -- still have the active airmets for weather...

The only thing i can think of and i doubt i would have ability to think of it in their situation would have replied to tower not going to make the airport. That would have gotten the rescue started a little bit sooner toward their area they are going in at.

I’ll say, if I didn’t know better I think he was falling asleep.

Interesting. So the far-fetched scenario there is CO poisoning and forgetting to switch tanks for the approach

They actually landed on Hebron in the median - so probably straight in. I lived on Harvest Point drive and the plane was by Province Drive before the RR tracks. Probably hit hard and skidded. Looked to be gear up landing.

Very true, there is a storm overflow near Hebron - wide and some concrete. That is the blue-gray line at the nose of the plane in the image - would be hard to see for sure with those ceilings. Lots of lights on Hebron though… about a mile or so from the crash site is air park - a community airport north of Addison. You can see it on the right in the image.

Yep but LOTS of buildings there - and a mall too.
There are big football fields near there but in IMC, tough call… those green areas don’t show all the new construction in the area. I’m sure the pilot is very familiar with the surroundings. Addison does not have a lot of off field options - that is why I’m not hangered there. Engine out and it’s pretty much all buildings/homes if you can’t make the field… highway is not any better…

I think he must have had unapproved down lock blocks.

I'll see if she still has it -- I only saw the one man in the video I had...

I'm very glad everyone is alive -- hope the surgery is successful and he gets back 100%.

Someone on BeachTalk had posted this link.  Kind of grainy but perhaps it will help identify the folks who helped.

Hope he recovers fully!  Was it a compression fracture of a vertebra?

I would guess compression fracture, all i know now is that it was a fracture of the vertebrae i’m going to visit him in the hospital tomorrow because i was out of town when it happened and i only got word the day after the incident. He said one man pulled his girlfriend out (she broke her left arm not sure where) of the plane first and two men helped him pull himself out, if it wasn’t for them they may have been engulfed in flames unable to get out. About recovery, the doctors say he’ll likely walk with a limp for the rest of his life due to nerves severing but other than that he’s able to talk and will live an otherwise normal life, i’ll keep y’all posted.
