M20k 231 light question

In the process of ordering new switches / covers and I noticed something….
my 79 k model has 2 landing light switches.

The one on the left turns on taxi and landing solid.
the right switch flashes both lights.

is this correct?

should they both be labeled “landing light”?

thanks for any input

If the two lights are wired separately...   Look around and see if you have a little toggle switch, possibly down below on the center console by the trim indicator.

For my Recognition lights I had a Pulse Lite put in.  One switch for power and the toggle switch for pulsing or steady.

My Landing lights are already LED, when I get the LED Recognition lights I was going to recheck the amperage and see if the Pulse Lite can handle all of them.

The more modern Mooneys have multiple lights to select from…

Two landing lights switches… and no taxi light switch….?

Looks like one switch is mis-labeled…

recog lights…

flashing, and wig-wag, options are extra…

what else do you have?

How is your relationship with the prior owner…?

There may be other questions like this one… that only the prior owner knows why…. :)

Best regards,

Most likely there were originally separate TAXI and LANDING light switches. When a Pulselite was added, the taxi and landing lights were connected together and TAXI switch was replaced by another LANDING light switch that operates the lights in wig-wag mode and original LANDING light switch was set to turn them both on continuously.

That is an idea of how to install without another switch.

I have the two lights in the cowl.  The switch is a split switch like a Cessna Master switch.   But no labeled with that landing light.  I have an LED landing and taxi light installed (thanks Gallagher Aviation) but need to figure out what switch is which light.

I want to put in a wig wag, but I have hear that do two cowl mounted lights doesn't help too much as they are too close together, so you don't get the movement effect.   So I was thinking wig wag one cowl light with the recog lights.

well thank you guys for the input, next time I have the cowl off (won't be long) ill trace the wires back to see which pulser I have- as mentioned above I have both lights wired in together (taxi and landing + to + - to - the left switch turns on the lights steady, the rights switch makes this flash, turn both on and you get steady.

actually works really well with the just installed whelen lights from Gallagher aviation.

I just didn't understand why they were both labeled landing!  now I know, maybe ill get a custom switch printed when I switch all of the to freshen up.

thanks again

I would look in your airframe log book for details of what you have. If its a STC installation you’ll also have a 337 in your records with more details.

I have a LASAR pulse on my recognition lights. Original switch controls all: switch on for 1 sec and they pulse. To turn off, switch back for continuous steady and turn off after more than 1 sec. simple and it’s installed right behind the switch.
but no longer available.

The original 79k had a single switch that turned on both lights.
looks like the one on the right was added without a useful label.

Same on my 80k.  It also had a blank on the left side of the switch row.  I figured it was for a taxi light eliminated but never have been able to confirm.
