231GKY Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 Does anyone know of a source for replacement switch covers for M20K rocker switches? The plastic cover on my avionics master switch broke and I hate to replace the whole switch just for that. Thanks. Quote

OR75 Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 that's a good link. Thanks ! Do they (re)engrave rockers you have or do they sell the rockers ? I need a few of my rockers (re)engraved Quote
HopePilot Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Not sure...just found it, while looking to have a placard done. Quote

N601RX Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Quote: jwilkins I have not (yet) been able to find a source for buying just the actuator covers. There have been a couple links posted to companies who will engrave them if we have the covers, but it appears Sensata does not choose to sell only covers. If no one has a source for buying the covers I'd like to take a look at tooling up a single cavity injection molding tool for these. To do that I'll need a variey of old covers to measure for variations between samples. If anyone is interested in helping I'd like to get as many broken switches and switch covers as possible so we can build a CAD model and evaluate the price of a tool. If anyone is willing to hlep please PM me for an adress to send your old switches and covers. If someone knows where to buy the covers that would be better, but, if not I'd like to follow up on this. Bolter Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Quote: jwilkins I'll be the first to admit that I am not on the cutting edge of technology, but, in my opinion, SLA or 3D printed parts will not yield the strength, tolerances, or finish we need for this application. Could be wrong, often am, but that's what I think today. Jim Quote
N601RX Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 The 3D printing technology and material choices have came a long way in the last 7-8 years. 8 years ago the stuff was for visual displays only and would crumble in your hands if not careful. There are material choices out there today that will let you build functional parts. Our machines are a couple of years old, I was at a trade show last fall and it was amazing what the new machines would do. With that said, I agree they are not as strong as injected polycarbonate parts we make, but then again we can get a part the same day vs a week later. Quote

jwilkins Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Quote: "You can make your new switch cover out of stainless steel with the labeling formed right in the part!" That's really neat technology. Thanks for the link. I'll have to check it out for other projects. For our switch covers the tabs inside the cover cover needs to snap over the actutor. We need a pliable somewhat elastic resin that will snap over the actuator and not break either the tabs by being too brittle, or break the switch actuator. I don't think SS is the way to go. Does anyone have their old broken covers around to donate to the research? Jim Quote
dcastor Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 I would be interested in a few of these if any of these efforts has moved forward in the 12 months since the last post. I am picking up a '77 201 missing a few switch covers. Link posted above by HopePilot no longer valid. Let me know. Dave Castor Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 I looked into this once. The switches are TI Klixon. They are simi-custom. The switches are standard parts, but the covers are made to order. 100 part minimum. I think printing them is a great idea, if they don't last then make me 10 of them, I'll change them every annual. bd32322 Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Arent most panel rocker switches standard fitting? Or are mooney's switches special and hence $$ ? Quote
Marauder Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 The rockers in my plane are made by Klixon. There are differences between those found on different Mooneys (I know because I bought some on eBay that won't work on mine). Show me a picture of what you are looking for. I think some of the rockers I have came from long bodies. Quote
dcastor Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Marauder... Will do as soon as airplane is in my possession. Dave Quote
Marauder Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Here are two Nav switches, the one on the top is a Klixon for my Mooney. The one on the bottom in both pictures is the one bought. Not sure who makes it other than it lists Germany on it. Bosch? Quote
bumper Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 My 87 201 has the larger switch Marauder shows on the bottom. I don't know what year they changed style. Last time I needed a switch or cover, I got if from LASAR . . . that was a dozen years ago, so don't know if they still have them. Quote

dcastor Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 My '77 201 came with the smaller size shown in the Marauder's pictures. Marauder, did the Klixon switches fit in your Mooney? hard to tell from the picture if they are close enough in size to fit in the space. As you can see, I'm looking for covers for the Nav and Strobe lights. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/33947-/ Quote

They are still around producing electronic components. Dave C Quote
