Marc_B Posted June 19, 2022 Report Posted June 19, 2022 I have an EI MVP50 and I've had several temp probe connections become erratic. Thought this was interesting to see the temp probe connection breaking on my engine monitor data, and also interesting that does not fail to zero reading... Had the crimp connector replaced and all's well. I've had to do the same on a couple of the EGT & CHT probes. Looks like EI now offers a different connector than the spade crimp connectors that came with unit...I'll have to start replacing with these and see if I notice a difference in longevity. Have any of you used the new EI OLC-2 connectors and if so, did you locktite the screw? 1 Quote
EricJ Posted June 19, 2022 Report Posted June 19, 2022 Unreliable crimps are usually because the crimp wasn't done properly, not because the connector was faulty. 2 Quote
PT20J Posted June 19, 2022 Report Posted June 19, 2022 And, bad crimps can come as a result of using the wrong tool. There are a lot of crimp tools. Some are incredibly expensive. Try pricing the DMC tool and dies for the double 4-way crimps on the machined pins Mooney uses for the CPC connectors. Skip Quote
LANCECASPER Posted June 19, 2022 Report Posted June 19, 2022 While bad crimps are certainly possible, this has been way too common of a failure on the EI MVP50. Glad to see that they finally came up with another connector. 1 Quote

Wildhorsetrail Posted June 21, 2022 Report Posted June 21, 2022 I used some of those connectors recently, and it didn't seem to me like there would be any need for thread locker. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted June 21, 2022 Report Posted June 21, 2022 (edited) I used those EI connectors on all my sensors when I redid my engine. They have been flawless so far. They fit in the 1/4 inch spaghetti tubing and make a neat wire bundle. https://www.iflyei.com/wp-content/uploads/OLC-2_Instructions.pdf Edited June 21, 2022 by N201MKTurbo Quote

Igor_U Posted June 22, 2022 Report Posted June 22, 2022 While I agree the new EI connectors are better then the old ones (easier to work with) with little care the original ones can be as reliable. You need to make sure the wire gage is appropriate and both wires are crimped bu the set screw. I don’t think you need Locktite it but I used shrink wraps on all CGR30 connectors regardless of what EI recommended ymmv Quote
