  1. The time has sadly come to sell my 1979 M20J. It's been a joy to own and fly over the far too few years. I moved recently and it just isn't a practical airplane for my new location, since my nearest runway is a 1900' grass strip. I'll probably be in the market for a C182. TT 3431.0 TSMOH 1354.5 TSPOH 1272.5 Annual date 5.7.2025. Very nice leather interior. All in great shape. Instrumentation is an EI CGR-30P for man. pressure, rpm, fuel flow, oil temp, oil pressure, cht, egt, and lots of other goodies. Garmin GPS 175, KMA 20 audio panel, KT76C Transponder, Stormscope, Skybeacon ADS-B out, KY96 Comm, KX170B nav/comm. Also has a Century 21 autopilot which works occasionally. Thorough maintenance and records. Dynamic balancing on the prop last annual and it runs smooth. For what it's worth the previous owner told me he spent a lot of time looking at M20J's and bought this one because he was determined to have something without damage history. 125K
  2. I guess that's we get from a company that doesn't even make a good burger anymore, much less an autopilot? Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  3. Your temps are pretty similar to mine. In hot weather I have to keep my cowl flaps open just a little with similar fuel flow at 8 or 9 thousand. And I have new baffle material. Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  4. I think it's excessive and doesn't seem to add much in the way of security anyway, but just my opinion. Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  5. Blue shop towels are also made of paper, are they less abrasive?
  6. And what do you guys use for a rag? Cotton? Paper towels? Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  7. Should have mentioned that there doesn't seem to be any leaks. Oil consumption is in the realm of a quart every 5 hours.
  8. I've noticed that once the engine is running at climb power (and less so in cruise) there is a smell of hot engine/oil in the cabin. Not strong, but definitely noticeable. Opening the cabin vent seems to help slightly. No sign of CO. Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  9. Actually doesn't have to be a GA 35 but at least compatible with Garmin GPS 175 Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  10. I'm looking for a GA 35 waas gps antenna for anyone who might have an extra, used or otherwise. Thanks!
  11. I've got a mechanical tach removed from a 79 M20J that I'd sell if you're interested.
  12. I've got this one I removed from an 79 M20J Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  13. Part 147 school is the fastest way. There are schools that do it in under 2 years, but very few. The disadvantage to the school is that you probably don't get as good hands on experience. The advantage is that that you learn some good theory and foundational instruction that you won't get hands on. The electrical theory portion is particularly valuable I think.
  14. Why the sudden uptick in near misses at major commercial airports? It's seems just a matter of time before there's a major catastrophe. Has there been a lot of turnover in ATC workers? Did the lull in travel during COVID lead to some bad habits? Am I the only one who doesn't trust the FAA to figure it our before something serious happens? Am I asking too many questions? https://simpleflying.com/burbank-airport-mesa-skywest-near-miss/
  15. I wouldn't worry about those tires. I've had much older on my 172. It's usually the tube that goes and the tire itself seldom plays a part in that. It's not usually recommended to put old tubes in a new tire but a new tube in a used tire is frequently done. Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  16. Let's go a little deeper into the water. Here is a picture of the panel. I would actually almost rather put the GNC 355 mentioned above. But does anyone know of a GOOD nav/com that would replace the one I have below the KNS 80? That would give me a basic nav, 2 coms (GNC 355 as No.1) and a GPS. I'd be completely satisfied with that.
  17. I believe my best upgrade path forward is to remove a KNS 80 and a KX 170 and use the KNS 80 space to install a GPS NAV/COM. With the approximately 3 inches available, which box would you put in there? Garmin? Avidyne? King? Other?
  18. Back in June, I installed a CGR-30p in my 1979 M20J, and it has been great. I love the features and the install was relatively easy in my opinion. Customer support via email was top notch. I got quick and informed replies.
  19. Wow, if I ever crash, God forbid, I hope it's in Texas where people act, not just watch.
  20. Interested in this but I'm not sure yet if it will work with the Century 21 in my 1979 M20J.
  21. Seems the cartoonist needs to beef up on his aircraft knowledge.
  22. Pretty sure I have a KI 203 Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  23. When I bought my Mooney back in the spring it was a fairly original panel. It did have an older Garmin GPS. I thought my first upgrade was going to be some fancy moving map GPs with all sorts of nice color and bells and whistles galore. What actually happened is that I flew the plane for a while and realized I was constantly craning my neck to see the Tach, MP, and EGT/CHT on the far right of the panel. I wanted that closer, so I removed those and upgraded to a CGR-30P which I placed in the center of the panel. I'm really happy with this upgrade and feel it was better money spent than fancy navigators and AHRS stuff. I feel much more confident and informed on engine management as well. All this to say that IMO your engine analyzer upgrade is the best money spent and might end up saving you money. Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  24. I signed up for a free SavvyMX online account and uploaded my EI engine data. Now I find myself constantly getting sucked into looking at the pretty lines and geeking out over all the cool data. I know they probably do this as a marketing tool, but it sure makes for a handy way to see and manipulate the data anyway you like.
  25. I had some concerns about the old baffling on my 1979 J so I put all new seals on from GeeBee. They were a great fit, but did very little to the temperatures. The thing that actually made a noticeable difference was putting some seal across the "v" below the deleted ram air. As some others here have noted, there is a significant gap in that area if the ram is gone. Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
