WTB WX-8 Stormscope

Anyone have a WX-8 Stormscope removed but still working.  Can't figure out if my antenna or unit is bad.

take a cordless drill and hold it 1 foot away from antenna and rapidly pull trigger and stop. it should show strikes

That Needs to be a drill you plug in the wall, or an old battery powered drill driver. It has to have brushes. Some of the newer battery powered drill drivers use a brushless motor. They won’t work. You need a sparking commutator.

Good point.  I used my 12v dewalt.  It sparks nicely

I do have one, used, removed, working as far as I know. I'll sell it to you. I don't have a way to test it but if it is a dud I'll take it back. See my post "used instruments" in this forum for a photo

Have an old DeWalt that makes lots of sparks.  Problem is, it shows sparks but little else, not sensitive at all.  Couple weeks back I was seeing cloud to ground lightning and nothing showed on the WX-8.  I bought one new in 1984, flew 5300 hours with it and know what it should do.  And this one doesn't.  It cycles for the test function and occasionally shows gear or flap actuation but that is it.  As many of these things as I see in old Mooney panels it seems like there would be a lot of spare parts out there.

I’ve got a WX900 w antenna. Worked great, and just pulled it for upgrade.
