Joshua Blackh4t Posted April 29, 2022 Report Posted April 29, 2022 Hi, My mechanic has found a couple of holes in the intake boot on my '65 E. I've noticed that these are in short supply so I'm starting here. Does anyone have an intake boot for sale and would they be able to post to Australia? Thanks, Joshua Quote

Thanks, Joshua These boots are made of Uo (unobtainium). Some wrenches have repaired them with rubber compounds. Quote

Jpravi8tor Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 Has anyone considered using a flexible rubber sealant such as flex seal? https://flexsealproducts.com/products/flex-seal?gclid=Cj0KCQjwvLOTBhCJARIsACVldV2R0Pngwg-6HI4ZPJRrseYaroWQYDMHUsnPlc1h3JMCWUtPYmz90gIaAga-EALw_wcB My thoughts are if the intake is still structurally sound and only needs an outer coating this might keep you flying until you can get the part Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 I’ve written about repairing them. Others have too. Use the search function. 1 Quote

Thanks, yeah, I have seen that and much appreciated. I would still prefer a new one if possible. I probably will repair it for now but will keep looking for a new one. Especially since I fly out of dusty dirt strips. Thanks 1 Quote
Guest Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 I believe that these are made by the Thermoid Company. https://www.thermoid.com/product-category/aerospace/ Clarence Quote
Yetti Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 There seem to be lots of self fusing silicone tapes out there. You just want to be sure that nothing from the old boot is going to get injested by the engine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZU53UJ/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?pd_rd_i=B01LZU53UJ&pd_rd_w=lgBUG&pf_rd_p=0c758152-61cd-452f-97a6-17f070f654b8&pd_rd_wg=8gQJS&pf_rd_r=9KHD5A750MNCEETDDPFJ&pd_rd_r=6c0649b2-5f70-49a9-b73f-46d5fe21ec46&s=industrial&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExUVJRNVRESzQ3OE1TJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDE0MzMyMUZTSEI4NzZBVjFBNyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjIyOTc3MUZHQUlXWFJDRkg3NCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbCZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 Quote
1967 427 Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 Presently the duct on my C is in good shape. They are just as hard to find, but I know when they make a run of these parts I plan on purchasing a spare. If I find a hole in mine before I can get a replacement, I have considered asking my mechanic if he thought this would be a temporary fix. https://www.amazon.com/X-Treme-Tape-TPE-X36ZLR-Silicone-Triangualr/dp/B00HWROMW6/ref=asc_df_B00HWROMW6/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241913979791&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1983717323158796772&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031931&hvtargid=pla-402919790058&psc=1 I have used this product at work and it’s pretty cool. I have tried to contact Lasar, their website says to call them, their phone says that parts are best handled by online chat which promises to email me back..... The joys of aircraft ownership.... That doesn’t sound too bad. I assume that they’re delivering it to Australia and installing it for you! Clarence Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 The last one I bought was in about '05. I think I paid $160 for it. Quote

Ragsf15e Posted May 4, 2022 Report Posted May 4, 2022 This seems to be one of those unobtainable but required parts that wear out. We’re lucky there are some methods of repair or we’d be in trouble. Quote
