201er Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 I'm curious how much general-aviation policy affects your choice of candidates for political positions that have say over it? If you had to choose between a candidate you otherwise agree with politically who is anti ga (user fees, tax increases on ga, airport closures, fees for online charts, increased regulatoin, etc) or a candidate you wouldn't like otherwise but is pro-ga, who do you go with? DrBill Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 I have to balance 2nd Amendment and aviation support. They usually go toghether tho. BILL  Quote

Parker_Woodruff Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Stop organized crime. Vote out an incumbent. (at least most of them) Quote
Becca Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Quote: DaV8or This is me too, however I find they don't always go together. Many pro 2nd Amendment candidates are also in favor of user fees. Second Amendment trumps user fees for me, so I then have to avaluate the candidate on many other positions for final decision. 2012 is shaping up to be another crappy election unless there's a surprise candidate out there lurking... 1964-M20E Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Becca FYI Uzi is spelled with a U :-). That aside 2nd amendment means a lot to me but that is a topic for antoher site. Unless I have missed it AOPA does a poor job grading and calling out politicians who vote against pro GA and Aviation issues or for anti aviation issues. I also find that they are not strong enough on reducing FAA regulations and bureaucracy especially on the part 91 folks. On the flip side the NRA is very vocal about the voting records of congressmen.  AOPA should take a page from the NRA on keeping score of the politicians.  Quote
John Pleisse Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 I think our country has much bigger problems that should be considered when voting. GA won't be my issue this time around. Quote
N33GG Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 I'm afraid it is going to feel like voting for Bob Dole all over again. Quote
fantom Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Don't worry too much, my vote doesn't really count for much based on my current residents deep in the heart of Texas with Ron Paul running unopposed as my Representative for a decade now and more than 60% of the voters going straight party line, I'm not exactly in a swing district. alex Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Quote: rob [sOAPBOX] You left off Oreck, Taubmann, etc. but... Some people you might recognize that have (had) college degrees or equivalent: Warren Buffet, Steven Ballmer, Albert Einstein, The Wright Brothers, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Stephen Hawking, etc. It's easy to make lists of people who do not have degrees, because they are the execption. You'll also note that most of the people who have achieved a high level of success without college educations have given very generously to educational endeavors and promote higher education. [sOAPBOX] I vote for the person who I feel will best lead the nation. I don't vote with my own pocketbook, nor do I contribute to any campaigns. I have priorities of my own and I adhere to them in choosing a candidate, regardless of party affiliation. Generally speaking, I value freedoms and constitutional rights and look for a candidate who will protect those, such as a woman's right to choose, a person's right to happiness, and the people's right to self-governance. So for me, who to vote for in 2012 is easy... Quote
