aviatoreb Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 Hi All, Sorry to start a thread on something so simple that I should be able to find in my POH myself - but darned if I can't find it! I have been browsing and browsing, and I see all sorts of parameters in there - but not my tire pressure. And by eyeball my tires look low and I want to add pressure. How much pressure in my tires? I found an easier to read M20J POH online that says 30psi on mains and 49 on nose. I found a less reliable source online that says M20K 42 on mains and 49 on nose. Can anyone speak definitively please? Thanks! Quote
A64Pilot Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 (edited) A lot depends on the surface your operating from, as I fly off of grass I tend to run lower pressure, but then as I fly often at gross, that brings it back to spec. I learned something long ago that pretty much applies for all aircraft, that is on the mains to run a pressure that just starts to lift the outside groove in the tire, now some interpretation is needed there as some tires don’t have outside grooves. It’s my opinion that the nose wheel is overinflated, but likely it needs to be to help reduce pogoing of the nose and prop strikes. ‘So for my J stock pressures work just fine, but I don’t obsess over pressure as some do and won’t add air until it appears they need it, that’s usually a few months. on edit just noticed your a Rocket, so I’d err towards higher pressures myself as maybe pressures for a lighter aircraft may be low Edited March 17, 2022 by A64Pilot Quote
Fly Boomer Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 Placards... EDIT: I set my NLG tire at 50. Because it's easy to remember, and it's carrying an extra 100 pounds of engine. Quote
WaynePierce Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 I was going to go the similar route as Fly Boomer, and suggest that it should be placarded near your tire. Or at least it is in my J. Quote
Marc_B Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 The two places in the POH where tire pressure is mentioned are in Section 1 General - descriptive data and in the exterior placards in Section 2 Limitations - fuselage exterior. 1 Quote
aviatoreb Posted March 17, 2022 Author Report Posted March 17, 2022 Thank you all for the excellent feedback! It was driving me crazy that I couldn't find the number! And yes that is for the original M20K POH that at least for tire pressure, I don't think the rocket makes any changes even if perhaps it should since clearly there is more weight on the nose at least. Still - I would worry about getting it wrong, putting too much pressure and having some kind of unexpected consequence so for something so simple as tire pressure its good to get the actual suggested number. And very interesting - thanks A64Pilot for your discussion on tread. Quote
carusoam Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 For Rocket’s air pressure… if there is a change…. Expect it to be in the Rocket STC… Since the engine and prop are different than the original M20K… it’s worth a look… +1 for the air pressure details being a bit hard to locate… The O1’s POH (my copy) has a special first page added to it… This is easier to read… Quote
