Planning a trip to New Orleans next week, I usually go to Gulfport then drive to NO. Which FBO is recommended and fees..

The few times I flew into KNEW I used Flightline and received great service. Nice facilities and right next door to the magnificent old Art Deco terminal building from 1934.

I've flown in to KNEW / Flightline 3-4 times the past couple years.

Always professional and the fees are very reasonable. You'll have to call for current rates, but in the past $10 or so a day I think.

Flight line first is a good place to go.  Wendy is real nice.  At this time I can't recommend going anywhere downtown New Orleans however, 

  1. Metairie area
    1. Gangnam Korean BBQ restaurant, I haven’t been here but it sounds good.  I did a Korean BBQ in Korea years ago and enjoyed it.
    2. Drago's in Metairie (this is the original place) has the best charbroiled oysters in the area
  2. A short drive across the river in Gretna on Friday nights they have concerts in October (local bands, Amanda Shaw on 10-22 she’s good with original music) on the river beginning at 6pm.  Get there ealry street parking can be a challange.  Free and open with plenty of restaurants to eat at before or after.  All are right there within a few blocks on Huey P. Long Ave.  Grab a beer from anywhere and walk to the concert.
    1. River Shack is right there by the river.  Sit outside and the concerts make nice background music.
    2. Gattuso’s
    3. The Depot
    4. El Gato Negre
    5. Amore Bakery, sweets
  3. Bucktown area in Metairie
    1. Deanie’s seafood
    2. Mr. Ed’s Seafood

Saw this thread late but had to reply. 
 

We went twice in 2012 for NCAA men’s basketball tournaments, once for the SEC and then back for the Final Four. This was the first year that New Orleans was “open for business” following Katrina. The SEC was a piece of cake but the departure the day after the Final Four was a mess. There were hundreds of aircraft on the field and we were tied down in the middle of nowhere. Flightline was simply overwhelmed and understaffed but they shuttled us and everyone else out to their aircraft to wait for a phone call from the tower. We had something like a 10am IFR departure on file and came ready for some delay, but were not prepared to wait 3 hours by our plane parked on a taxiway. Everyone was getting dehydrated and Flightline did send someone out with cases of bottled water in a pickup truck.  We finally got our staging call and got in line and got the hell out of there abut 2pm.

Lets just say KNEW was an adventure on that day, but Flightline is otherwise top shelf.

Around 2012 I was departing after a Superbowl.  I am based at a small grass strip but ATC kept me at 3000 for about 40 miles and way south of New Orleans before they cleared me to 110.  KNEW does get quite hectic during a big sporting event like final 4 or super bowl usually 36L - 18R is the only active runway all other hard surfaces are used for parking.
