I’ve searched for a bit and can’t get a solid lead.

My F model has the sticky messy air filter and wanted a regular synthetic material replacement for it but I can’t seem to find one. Donaldson has every model but the E & F, and Aircraft spruce lists a paper pleated filter but doesn’t have any details on it.

I don’t want the Challenger\KN filter as in motor sports they dust cylinders.

Some part numbers or help would be great!

Same issue. Donaldsons are nice. Cleanable element but not the sticky mess.
I have a Challenger in mine now. The seals I feel are unsafe and I don’t install the seal anymore. I run the ram air most of the time and change the oil often.
The entire intake on the airplane could be much nicer.
This might be a really short thread!

As far as I know there are only two choices for the E and F models.  The Brackett oiled foam and the K&N Challenger.  The OEM hasn’t been available for years.

For clarity, I was referring to the Donaldson as being a decent filter. Just not approved for the E/F. I’ve used them on 182s and such.

I have the K&N filter on my F, however, given my turbonormalizer, it is the same K&N installed on the J (behind the L Cowling air inlet)  The gasket seems spongy and not very durable.  I worry about it coming apart and getting ingested into the engine.  Is this your concern about the OEM K&N gasket?  I thought of making a new gasket from the reddish silicone (about 1/8" think) gasket material I purchased from Aircraft Spruce (such as what the Real Valve Cover gaskets are made from).  What does the audience think of that substitution?

Exactly my concern. I even ordered the new gasket. Self adhesive sticky back to the back of the filter. It should seal better than it does, but I don’t want to risk ingestion. I don’t want anything that need to be replaced behind the filter. If the bracket used about 1/2 the fluid they do that would actually be better I think.
