Txbyker Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I recently moved my M20J into a T-Hangar. It has a good floor and I sealed the cracks and spaces with foam sealant in an attempt to keep the dust down. But I still am getting my share of dust building up on the plane I guess due to winds blowing under or around the main doors even though they seal pretty well. My question is does anyone have any good input on some quick and easy covers that I can throw over the wings, windshield, and fuselage to keep dust and other airborne particles from settling on the paint? I fly about once or twice a week and still see the dust buildup. Quote
John Pleisse Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I always used bed sheets. Cheap, easy, effective. Quote
MooneyMitch Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Yep, bed sheets do a great job. I find it much better to occasionally take the sheets home for a wash rather than dusting/cleaning the airplane surfaces. It is a bit time consuming to cover the plane with each sheet every time I put it away, but the payoff is certainly worth the effort. As I write about this experience, I have to admit that I just received [for my birthday] a Kenon aircraft dust cover, manufactured in the proper color!! I am looking forward to installing the system. Time will tell how I like the cover system over my sheet system. Quote
PTK Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Sheets for the wings and fuselage. Comforter around the cowl to keep the heat in the engine during preheat. Pillow and a mat for you! Quote
DaV8or Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 For those using the bed sheet method, what size sheets have you found best for each part of the plane? Quote
MooneyMitch Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Hi Dave. For the fuselage and wings, I use queen or king. For the horizontal stabilizer, I used a twin sheet. Seems to work out just great. I love pulling those sheets off to find a clean airplane! Quote
skyking Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 i have a full set of wing, tail and cabin covers if anybody wants to buy them. They are off my "A" model but they are adjustable and custom made to fit Mooneys. i paid $1500 bucks will sell for $750. Quote
fantom Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 A pitot cover may come in handy as well. Never know what can get into your hanger. Quote
N33GG Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Why would you want to deny your aircraft a good protective coat of dirt? Just kidding. :-) Quote
jwilkins Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I have a set of complete covers from a J which I was told moved to Europe and they did not take the covers. I got them when I was on the waiting list for a hanger. We started to open up some seams to modify them for different antennas, etc, but a hanger became available. If anyone needs them make me an offer. They are just taking up space. My K came with a cabin cover which is enough for trips when I am not in the hanger. The covers are Tan, Aircover JK Hill, marked with N12ZX . The registration for 12ZX says 1991 M20J but I did not buy the covers from the original owner, so cannot confirm this is right. This is a complete cover set for the entire aircraft. The fabric appears to be in good condition. Jim Quote
