JimB Posted December 31, 2020 Report Posted December 31, 2020 Looking at the IPC, Mooney used a variety of fasteners in some of the wing access panels (AN screws, Cherry-max rivets and pop-rivets) I will be removing a few of my wing access covers that are pop-riveted on. The IPC shows a PN 1601-0512 for the pop rivet. These aren't all that common. These guys have them but it is a minimum order of 250. https://military-fasteners.com/rivets/solid+rivets/1601-0512 I don't really need $50 of pop-rivets. Any alternatives?

Yes that is a consideration but one or two more plates at annual is not a big problem. Right or wrong I remove every cover plate which makes the annual a PIA but I get to clean the inside of the wings, get a good look inside and apply corrosion X everywhere.

It has been about 5 years since I have used Corrosion X. The plane is in a heated hangar in Massachusetts, but I do need to do it again. Can anyone describe the process. I assume I can do it in sections. I know the autopilot servos need to be protected. I am told the avionics do not need to be, buy the thought of spraying that stuff into or onto expensive avionics does not sound right. How much do you need and at what location and entry site? 1964-M20E Posted January 2, 2021 Report Posted January 2, 2021 I don't spray in the cabin but everything else. Yes avoid spraying AP servos. Of course living in south Louisiana with the humidity and the close proximity to salt water I choose to clean and spray every year.
