Hi from New Zealand,

I have a question that may have been answered on the forum previously, forgive me in advance..

We have a '64 M-20C on maintenance, s/n 2802 which has rotten flaps.

We also have access to flaps off an M-20 E which have been refurbished.

So the question is, can the 240000 flaps be replaced with the 240014 flaps?

They are of different construction with different fairings but were fitted to C's from s/n 2923 on.

Thank you.

NZ,  I’m not an expert, only having exposure to my ‘63C.  Regardless... I compared the illustrations for those two flap part numbers and see some differences.  The torque tube connection/linkage is different, and the hinge point bearing blocks are also different.  I’m not even sure if the hinge spacing is the same.  The early flaps also had skin around the leading edge and later flaps used an extrusion.  That difference might affect the way the flap seals against the wing skin when the flaps are retracted, but again, I only have hands-on with my C.

The newer style is the top pic.  Although, the middle pic should be what I have installed, the scale of the arm on the torque tube doesn’t appear to be representative as compared to my airplane (bottom pic).

Good luck...

welcome aboard Pete!

Part numbers are going to be important...

The real question is how important...

We have two guys I can think may be helpful to the conversation...

One knows the most Mooney details... the other has collected the most number of ailerons...

@M20Doc and @Alan Fox

Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

Best regards,
