201er Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Not sure if this helps but when my trim was working in one direction and not the other it turned out to be the trim switch failure and not the motor itself. Just something to consider if you haven't already confirmed that it is definitely the motor. Quote
jetdriven Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 that motor should engage or disengage from the cable with a capstan I believe. If it is not releasing that may be part of the problem. Mine qiut working the other day. There are two diodes in the circuit under the panel that broke, solid copper wire. Fixed it for 4$ Quote
John Pleisse Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Clacking and grinding? Probably not the trim motor, more like the jack screw or there is a rod from the trim motor to the jack screw. Many of them chaffe and end up breaking, bending or warping. Trim motor is likely a symptom of another tail cone issuse. Trim motors usually work, or they don't. Quote
jetdriven Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 You can lube the jackscrew in the tailcone if the manual trim is hard to turn. The electric trim should release when not being used though. Quote
Mac201 Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 Thanks to each of you for your help. My trim motor is mounted above the jack screw rod in the tailcone acces panel. It has a chain that drives the jack screw, so it is directly connected. My mechanic is working on it tomorrow, so I will post again. Quote
jetdriven Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 I think that unit has some sort of clutch to disengage the trim motor from the shaft sprocket. That jackscrew is a PITA to lube but be patient. There is a dust boot in the gap between the last bulkhead and the front of the movable tail at the very bottom in the gap between them. Quote
orangemtl Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 I've had this issue intermittently in my Acclaim: it's darn near new, so: hard to blame wear/tear, or age. I think it's a switch issue; it seems to occur more often on the ground, with 'recovery' of function on the air. It's extremely annoying however, to be setting up for a landing, and upon pressing the switch: nothing. It takes awhile for it to start moving anyway, so you can waste time looking at the indicator rather than important things---like flying the aircraft. I've taken increasingly to simply using the trim wheel when setting up initially, then giving the switch a try. I wonder if it's somehow hanging up: but I'm no electrician, and darn sure no A&P mechanic. Thoughts? Experiences? Suggestions? Quote
