Schauer charger JAC2024

and 3 pin plug for portable ground power. I used to power up avionics while in the hanger. $225 via PayPal. I will include shipping in the U.S.

A great unit, I use it in the hanger practicing on the G1000

Dan and @carusoam I wanted to do the same thing so I bought the same unit above (model JAC2024 with Cessna style red connector) and I followed the procedure: connect to external power with JAC2024 unit off, master switch on, then JAC2024 unit on.

However, the G1000 shows -7 AMPS and the unit's light is green vs yellow/amber so not charging. It may be that the solenoid is not triggered?

Is there anything that I can do to solve this?

I only have a Master switch no other switch to turn on avionics separately in Ovation. Thanks for your help!

You need more amps to open the relay. The small GPUs that people use for the avionics are usually 20 amps or more.

Thanks I will check but output of this unit should be 20 Amps.

If that's the case then the diodes in your GPU circuit may be bad. Or it's possible that one of the circuit breakers in the tail of the aircraft might be tripped.

I didn't know about circuit breakers in the back... are they located close to the batteries?

@Healthpilot  I'm not sure when they started putting the circuit breakers in the back, but I noticed yours is a 2007 and my 2008 has them, so I would guess that yours does also.

In between the two batteries there is a row of breakers

and there are two on the back side of the baggage compartment

Quick update. Issue appears to be mechanical. Lifting the red 3 point (Cessna type) connector and holding it in position by hand it triggers the solenoid. Only battery one can be charged on my Ovation. I need to put something underneath to hold it in position and when I do that I see Batt 1 at >28v stable and -6 amps on the G1000 so I think that it’s charging now. Maybe my a loose connection?

That's a great solution for running the avionics, but for charging,  much lower amperage is better on the battery

The GPU plug is only attached to batt1….

If trying to close the relay on the GPU socket….

It might be helpful if you have an old spare battery lying around…

Connect the charger to the old battery, then the old battery to the GPU plug…

But, that gets kind of experimental…. And less knowing what amps are going where…. For how long…. :)

PP thoughts only, I haven’t tried this out…

Best regards,
