I dont know why we cant put all incidents and accidents in this one area.....

Is a gear up an Accident?

https://pilot-protection-services.aopa.org/news/2016/may/04/did-i-just-have-an-accident-or-an-incident

to be sure the PHMSA which is also apart of DOT defines an Incident differently than the NTSB or FAA.

Almost all Mooney gear ups are classified as Incidents by the FAA and never reviewed by the NTSB.

Lesser still than an "Incident" is an "Occurrence", such as going off the runway and perhaps taking out a light.

Which begs the question do incidents or occurrences rise to the level of being in the Accident portion of the forum?

I know a guy...

That may know the answer to the question...

Let’s ask @irishpilot  accident, incident, or occurrence... GU question...  and when do these get to the accident forum?

Well, if it (the runway excursion) ends up with an engine teardown it sure is an accident to the wallet...  Even if the FAA doesn't think so.

It is definitely worth posting here regardless of accident or occurrence especially if there is follow up information telling us the cause. We seldom get that with occurrences though.

@carusoam, thanks for the ping. I agree with @Gary0747. Tracking incidents and accidents gives us a good look at trends within our community. Even if we can't track down the causes of incidents (since not reported to the NTSB), it still serves as a good discussion to ensure our general knowledge is up to snuff.

If someone can merge the duplicate threads outside the safety section, I'd be much obliged. I can move threads, but not merge.

IP,

For the higher level of manipulating things... asking Craig / @mooniac58 can get you to the right spot...
