I have a 61 B model , and am considering moving into a bonanza , Is It more economical for me to part out my B than to spend two years trying to sell it and maybe getting 30K , I have a 430 , MX20 , Sl70 and Sandel 3308 etc that I can move into the beech , That probably will save me 10K , The engine is a 300 hour Matituck that I believe is worth at least 12 to 13 K , O&N bladders that are 3 years old , maybe 4k , Hartzell no AD prop 300 since new Maybe 5K , SWTA 201 panel mod maybe 3K and maybe 3 or 4 K for whats left of the airframe , Do these numbers seem realistic , any input would be greatly appreciated , I will know about the beech in a week or two...  Again any input would be greatly appreciated....

Hi, I bought a 61 B model and I love the damn thing!  I wouldn't trade it for the TLS on our field for even money! I can see the value of this bird for a new complex pilot or for some one training complex ,that is how I would advertise it. All I really needed to know was 20 GPH vs 8.5 for the type flying I do.

Economically it may make sense, but you would be taking a perfectly good (great, based on your description) classic Mooney out of the inventory...which just seems wrong.   A 61 B is irreplaceable...you can still buy a new Bonanza.  I suspect you could sell it in less than 6 months if you are willing to take 30K.

Time value of money is the issue... It could take every bit of the 2 years you mention, maybe more to get your money out of it. What's your valuation of having a flyable plane while waiting for it to sell?  What's the value of $30Kish in the next 2-4 months at one lump sum verses $37-40K in a random and guaranteed stream of cash flows over an unknowable period?  What is your time worth?  How many airplanes have you parted out?  I have participated in the break down of an Aztec, and a Comanche 180. Both of these machines were bought so cheap that the the projects were cash positive before 50% of the inventory was sold.  I'd put it on the market first. If you can move it in the next 3 months and change your mind what have you lost???


Why not just buy a Bonanza with close to what you want in it?  Removing and reinstalling used avionics in a different airframe in lieu of just buying the used avionics installed in that airframe seems like a lose/lose proposition.

I paid buy it now on EBay for mine because it had generated very serious inquirys to the seller. The offers were approaching reserve price and the competition was stiff as the reserve price was being approached. I recognized what a value this was . There were  two maybe three disappointed serious bidders when I got it. My research showed it about $8K below market and I was positive that anyone who drove over 600 miles would pay cash and it would disappear from my list. I realize everyone won't fly a Mooney because they are fearful of it's reputation, but a good demo flight and a few hours dual with someone like Parker Woodruff would get a buyer on yours . I would target 172 owners with economy and speed ,  and sexy. I have a line on a '78 ' 172 which has an asking price of  $40,000. Not nearly the airplane I got or that you have to sell.
