What is safe to use and what is not? Can you use a small steam cleaner to get at the hard to reach areas? Expand I spray it down with mineral spirits, and then blow it off with compressed air or hose it down with water if it is available. The engine is pretty impervious to water, after all, some people actually fly these things in the rain. Just avoid spraying the intake with the hose. On my plane it fills the turbo with water, which is bad. 1 Quote
Tony Armour Posted January 24, 2019 Report Posted January 24, 2019 I have seen folks use av gas in a garden sprayer. Today I was using av gas in a little spray bottle on my project. The picture of the oil pan shows very nicely where the oil screen goes in !! 1 Quote

thinwing Posted December 3, 2021 Report Posted December 3, 2021 those leaking fittings are 3/8 common pipe tread....the only thing ive found that works is high temp pipe sealant...clean the treads with solvent and apply locktight "701"I think I used....let set up over night before starting engine 1 Quote
LANCECASPER Posted December 3, 2021 Report Posted December 3, 2021 For what it’s worth mine loosened up a lot less frequently after I had my prop dynamically balanced. I like the idea of Loctite though. Quote
cbogie Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 Here is what mine looked like after cleaning with mineral spirits and medium bristled brush. Original cooked-on oil left these brown stains on the exhaust and V band. Source was #4 oil injection fitting as described above. Leaking oil flows through cooling fins and is difficult to see from above. 2 Quote

There is a very small leak that presents on the passenger side cowl flap / front wheel door. Quote

Expand That could easily be the quick drain. Even if they replaced your quick drain during overhaul, they are notorious for leaking a drip here and there. I finally had mine replaced a couple years before I sold it. Dugosh had to use a torch to loosen it up and remove the old one. (No wonder I wasn't having any success getting it removed.) Before that I would lose a few drops, nothing serious just irritating. For the last couple years I had the old quick drain I finally bought some small corks the same size as the quick drain and after an oil change just carefully put one of those in there, without activating the quick drain, and no more drips.
