HopePilot Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 I met a Mooney pilot who had replaced his gear down light (the one on the floor between the seats), with an LED light. I thought this was a brilliant idea, as it's a little more work to get to. Does anyone know, offhand, if it's a BA9? Quote
DonMuncy Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 Not an answer to your question, and I don't know what model you have, but my M20K manual erroneously lists this bulb as a 28 volt. Mine had a 28v bulb in it, and was so dim you could not see it. I replaced it with a 12v and it is now fine. Don Quote
laytonl Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 My 1978 Mooney uses a GE 330 for the landing gear light on the floor. I plan to use this LED unit from Spruce as a replacement sometime, LED Midget Flanged Bi-Polar LampT1-3/4 (5-28 volts)A direct LED replacement for Midget Flanged Based miniature incandescent lamps. Long-life, low power consumption, shock resistance, and extreme thermal tolerance make LED's ideal for harsh industrial environments. Voltages from 5V-28V AC or DC.Replaces miniature lamps: # 328, 345, 350, 7335 (5/6V), 330, 382, 394 (12/14V), 327, 376, 387 (24/28V) I believe it is about $8.00. Lee Quote
HopePilot Posted June 12, 2011 Author Report Posted June 12, 2011 Sorry, I have an '83 201. Is it "midget flair" or "Bayonet?" Quote
jetdriven Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 A GE 330 bulb is a single contact midget flanged base, FWIW. Thats a great idea, I think my bulb is 28v, it is quite dim as well. Quote
Clarence Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 This is likely the most common mistake I,ve seen over the years on 12/14 volt Mooney's. The LED bulb is a great "brilliant" idea Clarence Quote
David Mazer Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Would someone be so kind as to tell this neophyte how to get to the landing gear light between the seats. I tried to get into it last night but could not find a way to the light. Is there an access panel under the plane? Quote
OR75 Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 procedure is described in the service manual. You indeed need to remove an access panel in the belly. Quote
David Mazer Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 So, that just begs the question, how do I get a service manual for my 1986 M20K Rocket? Quote
danb35 Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 From your favorite MSC, for the airframe. You should also pick up a copy of the parts catalog. The Rocket mods wouldn't be relevant to this issue, but I'd expect (hope) that the materials relevant to them could be bought from Rocket. You can also find them on eBay from time to time. Quote
tyrefoote Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 I bought mine through ESSO essoaircraft.com good luck! Ty Quote
Clarence Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Mazrbase, Once you have the belly panel removed you will need a very short 5/16" wrench to turn the bulb retainer nut loose. Look carefully with a mirror you will see the retainer with two small wrench flats, back the retainer out and remove the old bulb. Install th new bulb, retainer nut and belly panel. Clarence Quote
