MARZ Posted January 30, 2018 Report Posted January 30, 2018 One of the benefits of flying is seeing clouds at a vantage point most cannot - I share these with my friends and they are in awe. Post some of your favorites (so all I have to do is remember to clean my windshield and avoid the bugs on takeoff...... ) 1 Quote
donkaye Posted January 30, 2018 Report Posted January 30, 2018 On the way to Kerrville last year for Homecoming just West of Fort Stockton, where the plane stayed in a Hangar for the duration of Homcoming while we hitched a ride by car the rest of the way. Additional convective activity was forecast, but never developed near Kerrville. 1 Quote
Brandontwalker Posted January 30, 2018 Report Posted January 30, 2018 I just barely broke out at FL150. It was solid the whole way up... 1 Quote

Skates97 Posted January 30, 2018 Report Posted January 30, 2018 I love taking pictures of clouds. Near Cedar City/St George UT Between Las Vegas and SoCal Salton Sea Banning Pass Great Salt Lake at Sunset Quote
Oldguy Posted January 30, 2018 Report Posted January 30, 2018 I am like @Skates97. I like all the different types of clouds. Solid cloud deck while traveling to the Mooney Summit a while back. Panacea, FL Clouds you can see down through. KATL Clouds making shadows on the ground. Colombia, SA I'm easily entertained. 2 Quote
flight2000 Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Plenty of cool clouds. Kids favorite game for a while was finding the "animals" in the clouds... Couldn't help the last one... Cheers, Brian 1 Quote

Hank Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Oh, fun times! Going across the Carolinas to the beach: Alabama summer: Checking elevator position in cruise: Between the layers: Man, I need to get out more! This looks like so much fun! Quote
Piloto Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Beautiful pictures. When approaching a line of clouds in the horizon I always wondered if I will be over or do I need to climb. I solved the issue by using a level scope. Just look at clouds through the scope with the bubble centered and it will show your relative height to the cloud top. It gives you plenty of time to start a climb if needed. You can get these scopes for $17. José 1 Quote

RLCarter Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 As a rule of thumb, anything below the horizon from your point of view is below your altitude, at the horizon is at your altitude and above the horizon is higher than you Quote
Jeff_S Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Here are some recent favorites. This one was a huge storm system that I flew around on my way to San Antonio in June last year: This one is just some beautiful wispy layers above and below, probably on my way to Amelia Island: And this was one of those beautiful sunset evenings after t-storms had passed over Atlanta, and some intrepid souls were finally able to make their way back into my home 'drome @ PDK: 1 Quote
