Seth Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 My 1967 M20F is the "Lady Luck IV" My grandfather flew B-17G's during WWII. The Lady Luck was shot down over France, the Lady Luck II ditched in the North Sea, and the Lady Luck III finished the war. The Lady Luck IV is my Mooney. Quote
jelswick Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 My step daughter calls our Mooney "Jim's other woman". I just call our Mooney "Beautiful". Quote
RJBrown Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 When we fly our children and other relatives worry. After landing my wife sends out a text "The Eagle has landed" to put their minds at ease. Quote
eldeano Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 The girlfriend calls our '63 my "shorty". Hmmmm, hope she doesn't call anything else that! Quote
ELT Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 After my wife's first flight in the Mooney she called it "Johnathan" because it does not want to quit flying (Johnathan Livinston Seagull). Quote
skyking Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Dave: Thats funnier than you-know-what..... Quote
sleepingsquirrel Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Hi, This Cessna 150 just begged for the name "Hedgehog", it has eight antennas and no wheel pants for flying in the hedge rows here in North Alabama. Still waiting for my Mooney to speak to me. Quote
moodychief Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 My wife and I started calling our Mooney "Jezebel" because I sneak off to spend time with her. Quote
alex Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Affectionally nicknamed "the truck" because of the way it handles. My first airplane was an Aerostar and I will admit that it pretty much spolied anything I've flown after it. Quote
BlueSkyTraveler Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Our '67F is named Molly, she is a good Irish girl, we are an Irish American family, it just seemed right............when we were searching for her we played Tommy James and The Shondells Mony, Mony every morning, substituting "Mooney" for Mony as we sang along............... Quote
sleepingsquirrel Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Now here is a Mooney begging for a nickname! N6088Q November 6 zero bar-bee-Q Quote
skyking Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Dan: I just recieved my nose art from Victory Girl. Great job, fast delivery. I got "Jealous Mistress" for my little darlin. Looks really good and i will post some pics when i get home on Thursday. Quote
Cruiser Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Well I don't have a nickname for my Mooney but when it is in the shop I refer to it as "$Q$(&^#$$$*&^ thing" but when we are in the air I refer to it as "dear". As in "only 20 more minutes dear". My wife thinks I am talking to her. Quote
danb35 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Quote: skyking Dan: I just recieved my nose art from Victory Girl. Quote
DaV8or Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Quote: danb35 Still don't have mine installed--temperatures have been too cold here for optimum adhesion. Here's a pic of it taped in place. Quote
FlyingAggie Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 I guess in one context "tail" art might be more descriptive of "nose" art. After WWII, my dad flew B29 named "Leaking Lenna," because the self sealing fuel tanks leaked so bad in the Alaskan temperatures, they had to set 55 gallon drums under the wings. I will leave it to your imagination to the Nose Art on that one. That might be a good name for a Mooney with fuel tanks problems. Hope I don't have the need to use that name. Quote
skyking Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Dan: Thats very nice too. She does great work. I got 4 sets... one for each side of the nose and a set for the tail. The tail ones are just 6" though. Still look great. Quote
danb35 Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 My wife worked with Jerri at Victory Girl; it was a surprise to me for Christmas last year. The thinking behind putting it on the tail was (1) no issue with engine heat, (2) the tail is a more flat surface, (3) there were stripes along the cowling that would have been in the way of art there. I like the tail location, and I'm looking forward to some warmer weather to get it installed. Quote

Frosty Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 My wife won't get in a vehicle that doesn't have a name. Our M20A was "Penny". The M20K was christened "Belle" before our first flight. Quote
1964-M20E Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Well I’m going through my first annual with my 64 E and the mechanic asked what the plane’s name is. I had read the post here earlier but never came up with a good name. That got me to thinking. First was “Betty” from "Ugly Betty" where we are shown beauty is only skin deep. Fitting for my plane since it needs a paint job. Then it hit me. “Stitch” from “Lilo and Stitch” since the plane is a little mischievous but overall good and lovable. There is a longer story behind Stitch and hurricane Katrina but that is better over a beer. Quote
jelswick Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 I've only called mine that once, but it was recently when all set to go and the boost pump wouldn't pump. I apologized to her and we're getting that fixed now. Quote
JC252MB Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 Rocinante! You can pick the Cervantes, Steinbeck or Peart reference. Quote
