Went to the airport today to check on my 1966 E.  Snow today so no flying.  I noted a small fuel stain on the hanger floor and a drip from the "weep" drain from the electric fuel pump.  Upon turning the fuel pump on the rate of drip increased.  Don Maxwell's (I see Don has joined this forum)Publication on External Hoses, Tubes and Fitings indicates that an electric fuel pump replacement is in order.  I will have the local AP check it this week.  Has anyone had experience with overhaul or purchase of the Dukes 4140-00-21 pump?

thanks,

Hi ELT.

There are several threads on MooneySpace regarding electric fuel pump issues.  You might "search" under the forums section for "fuel pump" to find some helpful information.

My positive experience for an overhaul was Geroge's Electric in Sacramento, CA.  I would think that there are other shops througout the US that do overhaul these units.

Also, Aircraft Spruce carries a Weldon pump which is a direct replacement for your Dukes pump model.

Would you please post some photos of your great looking RED Mooney for us to see?  Happy New Year to you.

Had the same issue with my '67 M20F about a month ago.  If you turn the fuel shutoff valve to the "OFF" position, it'll stop the dripping until you can get it repaired.

Was told by the MSC that the Weldon pumps are much better than the Dukes.  They had another Mooney owner in the shop who'd just replaced his Dukes pump a year ago, and it had already failed again.

I opted to go with the Weldon retrofit, since I plan to keep my plane for several years.  But you'll find it's considerably more expensive than overhauling your Dukes.  In the end I figured the difference was worth it since the Weldon should hold up for several years.

I had to replace my Dukes Boost Pump recently.  While they could not help me because I needed a whole new motor, I found Russ at DG Supply, Niles Mi 800-446-8160 to be extremely helpful and to go out of his way.  I think they have all the parts necessary to repair your unit for a fast turn around.  I think a phone call will confirm this.  Mine was dead quiet electrically, yours sounds more like a seal.  Unless you need to fly immediately, you can probably save money by pulling yours and sending it to DG for repair.  As I understand, the Weldon is not a direct replacement for the Dukes.

I know it's been a while since the following post, but I noticed that you referenced having a -21 pump on a 66E model.  The -21 is a low-pressure pump for the carbureted engine, and is not approved for nor will it keep the injected engine running in the event the mechanical pump fails.

Cheers,

Don

Hi Don,

That is the correct number on that pump.  The logs also indicate that pump was origional to that airplane.  The engine is currently out for MOH, so we will review this.  I am out of Beaufort right now and do not have the service manuel at hand.  What is the source of your information?

Thanks for lookin out for me

Thanks guys.  I will return home tomorrow and check the airplane and logs.  It is possible I first posted the part number before removing the pump and I misread the Mooney Parts Manuel.  That is probably what happened.  The pump that is in the airplane is the one installed by Mooney at manufacture (according to the logs).

Hi Guys,

MY BAD.  The pump is a -19.  Probably when I first posted I used the wrong part number.

Thanks for looking out for me.  I hope the people overhauling my engine and rebuilding the landing gear are as attentive.
