What is your top speed?

I was up flying yesterday and decided to "exercise the engine" so at 2000' with WOT x 2700 at 75dF ROP local conditions were 41dF and 29.96 I got a top speed of 166 kts.

Tanks were half full and I was by myself. I think she can squeeze out a couple more kts. if I took all the junk out and put a fresh coat of wax on her.

Is that airpeed or ground speed measured by your GPS?

It was 163 KIAS on my airspeed gauge, corrected for temp and pressure it is 166 KTAS. Assuming my airspeed indicator is correct.

Maybe the next time I go for a short hop I will do the three course GPS calculation to check the airspeed indicator.

I'm not playing this game again.  Last time I was accused of being in a dive when I took the photo or that my AI was way out of whack.    My GPS groundspeeds proved I was right and while my AI was "off" it was only 2 kts... Now, I just keep my speeds and planning figures to myself...

Interesting. I was also "exercising the engine" on Friday so with full tanks I wanted to do a speed test at normal cruise levels to determine the difference between ROP and LOP.  Here's what I got:

6500', 4°C, 30.24 altimeter, 2460 lbs gross weight, 2500 RPM and WOT (~24" as I recall)

• 
  
• 100° ROP = 160 KTAS
  
• 20° LOP = 155 KTAS
  

7500', 3°C, 30.24, 2450 lbs, 2500 RPM and WOT (~23" now)

• 
  
• 20° LOP = 159 KTAS
  
• 100° ROP = Didn't do it, why bother?!
  

All speed figures given by the Shadin air data computer.  I love these cooler temps!
