capthaak Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Our '81 J model has developed an issue with the gear warning horn. The CB pops when the gear is raised and can't be reset until the gear is down again. Any ideas of where to start looking? Anyone else have this problem in the past? Quote
triple8s Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 I dont know about the gear warning horn but I'll tell my gear malfunction experience, I would have a CB pop when raising the gear or when the gear was up and in cruise. I checked everything with the mechanic and the last thing we checked revealed a chaffed wire in the belly going to gear actuator relays/switches. We put the plane on jacks removed the belly, turned the lights down in the hangar and raised and lowered the gear while we jiggled wire bundles, the sparks revealed the chaffed wiring. ( dont get your fingers in the moving gear mechanism) FYI while looking to figure this problem out I started at the switch in the panel and looked under the panel, while there I noticed a cotter pin on the control yoke shaft had been touching a bundle of wires and when moving fore and aft had nicked the insulation on a couple of the wires. I had just had radio/avionics work completed, the point is be diligent, look things over often. Quote
mooniac15u Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Does the CB pop when you first move the gear switch or once the gear is fully retracted? Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Should be easy to troubleshoot if it does it all the time. Does the green light come on? Does it do it if you hit the test button? Can you reset it as soon as the gear starts moving or do you have to wait until it is all the way down? You will have to get it up on jacks to troubleshoot. Pull the actuator breaker with the gear half way down, then manually actuate the limit switches with the gear switch (handle) in both the up and down position to narrow it down. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Like Triple8 said it is probably a chafed wire. Look around the actuator and contactors, and around the gear switch. Quote
capthaak Posted June 20, 2016 Author Report Posted June 20, 2016 Our mechanic had me look behind the annunciator panel. We found a very slightly chafed wire. Fixed it and repositioned it, and we're good to go. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 2 Quote
