ADS-B complete

looks great.  On a side note, it's funny what workhorses the KX155 radios are.  Nearly every new panel with modern avionics has the KX155 sitting in the middle of it with its decades old technology.

I just got offered a KX155 for free and jumped on it haha. Better than my 40yr old Narcos

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Excellent 1980's engineering.

They're hoping to have it out for ground checks tomorrow afternoon, fingers crossed.

The L3 is one sweet box, Clarence. You will love it. Thanks L3 for the great donation to the Mooney Summit IV! (a Lynx NGT9000)

I didn't know you had the standard 6 configuration.  Nice!!!

It was nice that when I lost my alternator I was transmitting in the blind on the KX155 and they still heard me, albeit scratchy.  They knew there was someone out there headed towards the field so they diverted a couple planes inbound.  The GPS Com was the first to tank when the alternator started going out even though they say they are low powered.

what they don't know will not hurt them.

That's pretty much how I operate. I simply tell her that every dollar added is 2 dollars gained. We all know that's completely true.

May I ask how much explaining this took to the better half in terms of cost? Ballpark will do of course.

In my case I'm not doing it for the ADSB portion of the Lynx, but for the active traffic, the rest is kind of a bonus.  As to the cost I told my wife that with it I'll be around longer to complain about the price.

The Lynx was on sale in May and I was able to do the antenna, coax installation, and tray installation, leaving all of the connections to our avionics shop.

Please provide add'l PIREPs on the Lynx when it all gets done.  I am leaning towards the Lynx solution with the active traffic...

Am I understanding correctly that the ADS-B wx and traffic will transmit via Bluetooth from the Lynx box to some flight apps running on a tablet?  If so, that is an ideal solution especially if you get aural traffic alerts too...

My issue is that I don't have a WAAS GPS (KLN 94) so the alternative is to spend even more money and upgrade that box (-770?) and add the KT-74 xpdr.... and not get the Lynx.

I went in to the demo with stars in my eyes...

Walked out with a brochure for the KSN770 with 'WASS'.  I think the guy next to me called it klugey.

Kind of looked like they rushed to market it. The rush has lasted several years.

How long ago was that presentation?

Best regards,

The entire Package including the Avidyne IFD440, Their Digital ADSb out transponder, and their Skytrax 100 I think is the model (ADS B IN Receiver Box) was 14000. Then I got 6500 in rebates (Including trading in my 430W) Total of 7500 bucks for brand new equipment.

I didn't have WAAS, my 430 had a bad CDI board (not sure how I did that but it wasn't working when I sent it so it was just -800 off my rebate) and I needed new antennas as well as a new tray for the transponder so my total was $10.5k.  So it's kind of like buying the GPS and getting everything else, including WiFi and Bluetooth activation, for free.

So I got 2 aging pieces of equipment out of my plane. :D
