I think he most certainly understands the regs. He was trying to help Robert understand. I'm highly confused by this statement. I feel like too much is being attributed to me that I never said. All I ever said is that you may have to work to find an IA who wants to work with you and that if the IA personally decides he doesn't want to annual a plane after seeing the hours on the engine he can hand you back the logs and say "no thanks". I then said I would only personally be comfortable flying much over TBO in certain situations. I never signed up to defend IA's who decide not to do the annual so please find someone else to argue that position to you if you wish. -Robert Quote
Guest Posted April 5, 2016 Report Posted April 5, 2016 In Canada we have a much more complete log book system which is used by most operators. A journey log book which records all flights and is considered to be the legal document for pilots and Maintenance Engineers to record work. An airframe log which is a copy of the journey, a records and modifications log, an engine log, a propeller log and a components log if needed for helicopters. These logs are full sized book not note pads, the AD log system is a copy of our system. An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer records all work completed and any outstanding deficiencies. A pilot can review the outstanding deficiencies and determine if the plane is safe to fly. One can for example release the plane after an Annual Inspection and note that the landing light is burnt out, the pilot can determine that for the intended flight the light is not needed and conduct the flight safely. He can replaced the bulk at his leisure under Owner Maintenance provisions. The plane can be also be released with an engine making metal with an entry stating that it meets Lycoming SB....... Pilot makes his decision, next Engineer is aware of the situation. Clarence Quote
