Planning a trip to ft lauderdale (from Dallas) in mid Jan to visit my daughter and would like to fly out to Bahamas. Any suggestions on renting a raft and life jackets in south Florida? Haven't decided yet, what places to go visit, so many choices. Can't wait to get get started.

There might be something in here...

Aaron was still single and his engine was burning more oil then....

Plenty of funny thread drift including pictures.

I use KFPR for Bahama's destinations. You can rent a raft for $125/week and they also rent vest's and the FBO, APP Jet Center, is next door to customs plus has a nice restaurant. But you should consider buying your own vests unless you never fly over water just to have in the aircraft. Start your survival gear pack with a waterproof EPLB too if you don't yet have one.

Great trip! All burning a qt every 2 hours or so the good news is at the now closed playa del Carmen airport there was cheap Mexican labor where $20 payed to clean all the oil off the belly that was burning though my exhaust. 916f5b91927a4102dc1f89a87dc8751c.jpg

Me too.  I have rented at APP Jet Center several times.  One hint.  Reserve your raft at least a week in advance.  If you fly over during a heavy travel period like spring break, they sometimes run out.

The easiest way to rent a Life raft for Bahamas trip is to go with www.aviationraft.com

I use them all the time, very easy to deal with them. I fly different planes, from different airports, they deliver the raft for me in the FBO where I am taking off from.

Most of my islands flights are from Florida and Texas.

My home drome is close enough for a non-stop flight, so I have been twice without stopping for a raft. I have since discovered a couple of airport neighbors who own one that I’ll use next time. That said, both times I’ve been, there have only been very very brief moments where there was not a fishing boat within gliding distance of Florida and the Bahamas. Results may vary.
