I want a G3X.  Much better system.

Unfortunately not available for certificated aircraft.

I don't see why not on the G500 - I think C model and all the others are on the STC.  Dual Aspens have been installed on Vintage Mooneys.   When I asked how hard  it would be to add a  second Aspen later when getting my Aspen PFD put in, my avionics guy said "c'mon if you're really gonna do that later, just have me put in the G500 now instead."  The price is comparable, so he certainly made sense- too rich for me though.  I've already put an absurd amount of money into my C model.

It does burn me that we can't have a G3X- I get a little nauseous when I think about the savings it would have allowed.  Who knows when Part 23 rewrite will happen, so it seemed too open ended to wait.

As the G500 has remote boxes while the Aspem protrudes further behind the panel it might be easier to install.

Most C models have little or nothing on the aft radio shelf (from the era when every Navcom needed a separate bulky power supply box) there's room to install the full suite of remote boxes.

It's only money.

Wellllllll the FAA just made it easier to replace your AI with an electronic type AI as a minor modification.

Sooooo is it that far of a step to replace more with a field approval???

You should be anle from an STC standpoint to put a G500 in a C model (check Garmin's STC compatibility list).  I have a G600 with alot of other glass Garmin stuff in my 1968 F.  You just need to design a panel that make sit work and do the paperwork for legality.
