markejackson02 Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 Reinstalled the overhauled servos. Three of four are fine. In the left wing the tubing will not stay attached to the servo. On the other three hoses, there appears to be some sort of white plastic that forms a lip which the compression fitting then holds in place. It is not there on the left tube. Does anyone know what this stuff is? It is definitely not Teflon or tape.

tony Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 When I needed those fittings the only place I could find them was from Brittain. I think they are a couple of dollars a piece and they stock them.
N601RX Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 It's poly-flow tubing. Spruce sells the brass fitting for it. Some local hardware/heavy truck stores have them also.
carusoam Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 In the process equipment business the piece that is on the hose is part of the compression fitting. the name of that part is a Ferrel, feral (forgot how to spell it). Somebody has knowingly removed that part(?) and now you need to get a new one to put it back. Trim off the tubing that was used with the previous part. It's surface has probably been affected as well. It is probably a standard part, like somebody said above. The compression part of these type of fittings may get compressed to the tube and are not usually reusable when removed. Fortunately they are low cost. And most likely readily available... best regards, -a-

Hank Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 Mark, the white bands in the red and green tubes in the center if the photo are ferrules, part of the brass compression fitting. Check your local industrial supply house, or call Brittain. Quick, easy, inexpensive.

It is best to NOT mix the ferrule of one manufacturer with the 'nut' from a different manufacturer. They may have different dimensions that won't seal properly or stay sealed over time. I can see that a person may want to use the old nut and try to replace the missing ferrule to maintain the look of all the parts in the system. It would be a bad idea to mix parts in the compression fittings. And... Ferrules are not usually re-usable because they deform when compressed. hope this helps somebody, -a-

So they did ship it with the overhauled servos. I did try again but the hose pulls out easily. Gonna take pcitures so I can make sure I'm installing it correctly. markejackson02 Posted October 26, 2015 Author Report Posted October 26, 2015 Well, turns out I was installing the parts correctly, it is just that the old hose is basically crumbling. So now have to think about pulling all new hoses. What I get for buying a 40 year old plane :-) As an aside, I can't say enough about how helpful and nice the folks at Brittain have been. Fast turnaround on everything, answered all my questions, and provided scads of documents for free.
yvesg Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 Brittain's folks rock! They helped me get my retractable step boot overhauled and the wing leveler back inline a few years ago. I did my 2 year IFR renewal Saturday and the inspector was quite surprised how well this thing behaved when I turned it on. It allowed me to focus on my climbs settings after being cleared higher while under the hood. I always use it when flying in clouds. Yves
