M20K Yoke refurbishing

Recommended Posts

Looking to refurbish the yokes on an M20K as part of my interior redo project.

My complete interior redo for the rocket is now all aligned to be done somewhere in the next couple of months, with all the suppliers aligned, only part remaining are the Yokes.

I know aerocomfort has a process of covering them up with leather, but it seems pretty labor intensive to remove with all the wiring and then putting it back on, and A/P costs are pretty high...

So wondering if there are any other ways, maybe something like powder coating or a process developed by some ingenious company in this field that dos'nt require their removal. it's specially the pilot yoke, co-pilot yoke is pretty clean for now.

Any suggestions would be most welcomed.

Thanks !!!

A surgeon over on Beechtalk did a fantastic DIY leather-wrap that looks every bit as good as my Aero Comfort yokes.  If you're handy, you might try it yourself, and if not, try to find a local hot rod upholstery shop and see if they can do it.  They could probably make some patterns in the plane, and then cut & punch the lacing holes in the shop, and then come back and stitch them on while installed.

I'm still happy that I R&R'd mine and sent them to Aero Comfort, though.  :)

FormationHY, you need to be comfortable removing the yokes and putting them back with all that it entails. I suggest you start with copilot one first. It has less wires. Mine only has copilot ptt switch.

They have a bolt holding them in left to right and a recessed internal hex set screw underneath. You need good high quality tools as the bolts and set screw are very tight.

The entire project from removal, refinish, leather, and re-install took me about a week and a half. Most of that time was obviously the leather.

Will you be removing them? Which autopilot do you have?
