Hello Everyone.

My newly purchased  1967 M20 E was expected to be ready for pickup just before Christmas.

So I flew out on American Airlines from Pittsburgh to Reno, to bring it back.

Of course there was one problem. The prop and hub was sent out to be eddy checked ( old prop).

It was then crated and sent back on the 22nd .

It was lost. UPS says," we don't know anything, its Christmas."

I am trying to get answers but everyone went on vacation, including the prop shop!

Question 1)  Anyone ever heard of such a thing happening? What was the outcome?

Ups states " If the package cannot be found, the shipper can file a claim up to the declared value of the package contents. "

Question 2) Do you think I'll get a prop or are they cutting me a check ?

Question 3) Any ideas of time frame ? I have to go back to Pa.next week.

Questions 4) How am I going to get this plane home?  Ideas

Of course this must happen all the time.Nothing to worry about.

I would be surprised if it is lost forever. Not with the tracking they have today. My guess is that it is sitting in the receiving area of the prop shop.

If it is truly lost, then all depends on the insurance bought. Hopefully enough to cover the true replacement value.

If it was insured as a high value item they will be motivated to find it for you. If it was underinsured you can hope that the shipper had it insured through their shop insurance.

You can find last prop location by entering the package tracking number at www.UPS.com The reimbursement of the lost package will go to the sender or the UPS account holder. When looking at the package data verify weight and dimensions. Your prop may had end up on another plane, maybe in Santa's. Check your chimney/fireplace.

If you were screw up then have a: Feliz Ano Nuevo. :D

UPS insurance is expense. Many businesses have taken the position that they don't insure anything and will come out better in the long run even if they occasionally loose something. I would think that your plane insurance might cover it.

It is sitting on a ramp some where at a ups hub. They have a weird system that stuff gets hung up between the jet and sorting facility. If it's insured, I would start that process. Either way it will most likely show up in the next week. Ups freight or ups?

unfortunately, UPS won't deal with you b/c you're not the sender.  Hopefully it was properly insured, but even so, the check will be given to the sender, and you will have to deal with the shop.

You are all right .

The most frustrating is "UPS won't deal with you b/c you're not the sender."

and I hope it was insured.

These are the adventures that make life fun .....I keep telling myself.

What I don't understand is why they would remove the prop in the first place for an inspection that takes about a half an hour to do. Was the plane out of annual ? I know there are a couple locations just over an hours flight time from Reno that do this inspection. Why didn't they just fly it to the shop have lunch and return.

Removing the prop for the ET inspection blows me away.

Keep in mind folks, the Eddy Current inspection does not have to be done by a Propellershop(unless it's the initial inspection).

Any level 2 NDI tec that is ET rated can do it, as long as he has the inspection criteria in front of him.

Woohoo, the prop has been found in the Sparks NV UPS depot. Just a Christmas slow up. 22-29 delivery , from Stockton Ca to Minden NV.

The plane was out of annual and grounded. The prop was out of inspection too. So the prop was sent out. Simple (usually except Christmas time)

Next time it will be on the aircraft in annual and flown to the prop shop for sure.

Yes, I'm just waiting for the prop to come in. I am sitting around in  my hotel room after the blackjack dealer took my money, been to the Sands , and the Ramada. Priceline picks my hotel, the one with the lowest price.

And I made the PVC fuel valve selector extension.

carl,

let us know how things progress.

flight following is a good idea, if you are not going Ifr...

share your flight plan with us for some experienced input...

watching X-C Mooney flights on Flight aware is better than watching TV.

Good luck,
