I am nearing time to take my checkride and wondering if anyone has had experience with any study guides for this. I have been using Gleim all along and its been working well but I do not have any Gleim checkride books.

Has anyone had experience with this product?

In case the link does not work its called "Private Oral Exam Guide: The Comprehensive Guide to Prepare You for the FAA Oral Exam" by  Mike Hayes.  Also any checkride hints.. I am all ears.

Thanks!

I just did my Instrument written and checkride in the last month. I used ASA Instrument Rating Test Prep Book and Oral Prep Book...basically read through them and answered every question, then went back to areas I was having troubles with and repeated..It has been a while since I did my private (20 years), but the stress is the same from what I remember...Just study as hard as you can and get good rest the day before.. You know what you know and worst case you miss somehting and have to take that part again. Do your best to get good sleep the night before and eat a good breakfast the day of. From my experience, the Private and Instrument exams (oral, written and flight) were not as bad as I thought they were going to be...Study hard up to the day before, then get good rest and don't get too worked up...Like I do :) ..GOOD LUCK!

I was 99% prepared (as much as I felt possible) after using the ASA Oral Test Preps for both private and instrument oral exams.  Highly recommend them.

Some advice: there is no way to cover every possible question that you will get asked and it's okay to tell the examiner that you don't know something, just be able reference the applicable document or publication where you would find the answer.

Good luck on the checkride!

Ditto to what others are saying.  I used the ASA for the PPL check ride.  If you're ready, it doesn't matter which guide you use.  Relax, and remember, if you weren't ready, you probably wouldn't have been signed off to take the check ride.

I did NOT prep for the oral portion at all.  I went in thinking if my instructor thinks I'm ready...I'm ready...and if I fail it was just a good practice session with a couple of cross country flight's thrown in.  I remember my landing (at end of check ride flight) and the instructor...I think testing me...asked me to turn onto a taxiway (we were going to fast)..IF ABLE.  I believe he was testing my ability to make the RIGHT decision...and had I made the turn he would have failed me...I said "unable" and he smiled.  He was a former P-38 pilot (WWII) and a great guy!  Have fun, be relaxed and enjoy.  Believe that they WANT to pass you, but have to make sure you are competent and SAFE...Good LUCK!

Each of the 3 check rides I have taken, PPL, INST & MULTI/INST, were really nonevents. I found that in each case I was so well prepared by my CFI that they were easy.
