has anyone considered or actually replaced with the plane plastics plastic headliner?

pro's and cons and what exact model number is it?

Otherwise I will just go with what is there, the airtex vinyl.

I was thinking a plastic one is more durable easier to clean and remove for mx etc etc....I may want to add a blade antenna on the top next year and the headliner would have to come out.....

I will enclose my current ugliness.

Current ugliness: yikes!

I re-did the interior in my previous 67 M20C and am about to do it in my current 64 M20C. The headliner and design is significantly different in each because of the fresh air ductwork from the air scoop on top of the fuselage. The earlier models use hoses, the later ones an actual duct, so you can't just buy the new plastic.

You may be able to buy the whole thing from a wrecked C or E and install, but it may not be worth the cost.

I think my solution will be to clean up my air hose situation and fabricate covers for them out of sheet metal or fiberglass, as well as a cover for my speaker. If you find a shop that is willing to install the ductwork and ceiling pieces from a later model, they may be willing to fabricate new ones for you from scratch. Might be worth getting prices for.

Good luck, keep us posted. If you come up with a better solution, I may steal your idea! Attached is my ceiling without headliner.

P.S. love your paint job. Mine is serial # 2673. Yours?

Mine is 2799.

My paint is actually in need of touchup so badly.  It is going to the corona paint shop in a couple of weeks.  I am just getting wing tips resprayed and lots of other stuff buffed out etc.  I just bought the lower cowling mod from LASAR so it will go on this week and then needs paint to match.

I have a 62 C with the same style head liner, I replaced mine with airtex's wool head liner. Truth be told I have replaced it twice, the first time when I bought the airplane because the old head liner crumbled to the touch. Most recently I replaced it again because I redid the interior and change the color scheme significantly enough that the color didn't work. The first headliner I put in was 8 yrs old when I pulled it out and it looked brand new, I gave my complete old interior to some one here on Mooneyspace. Both head liners went In easily with only minor trimming needed and a little spray glue to adhere some of the edges. The other nice thing is I didn't have to remove the head liner when I made several antenna changes, I just pulled the nessasary trim then peeled back the edge. When I was done I just re adhered the edge and reinstalled the trim.

Park on the west side near Mike's Avionics

I have a 64 C, and replaced the headliner with one an upholsterer fabricated from light grey leather.

The lightweight leather is eay to install and resists wrinkling that you find in other materials.
