While reviewing  a log book for a 65 C, I saw two entries for firewall repair. one was stop-drilled, and one had a plate patch.


Is this common, or a huge red flag. I think there was 7500 hrs on the airframe

Rob,


It's ok to patch a firewall crack. The patch needs to be made out of the same material as the firewall. The material is 321 stainless steel .016 MIL-S-6721. The patch also needs to be sealed. The other crack that you mentioned that is only stop drilled needs to be sealed and patched.
