  1. Kt 74/garmin 430w for position reporting is above 18 k out solution...garmin gdl -39 with ext antenna is in solution ,traffic on a 696 in a panel mount...all in all not to expensive, but I already had the 430 w and 696 installed...so with trade in of bk 76c about 2800 for every thing...
  2. Hi Oscar...interesting flight...as you noted at that altitude ground speed is quite higher than indicated but you still fly your approaches at same indicated as sea level....at a density altitude of 10k the highest manifold pressure you could pull would be 22.5 in or about 60% as you state. You did not mention staying in ground effect after lift off to let airspeed increase before climbout...Out west ,airports like Tahoe and evansville wyoming when hot and heavy poise challenges trying to outclimb terrain. My turbo has made all the difference in these cases..regards kpc
  3. Ok..none of my three actual approaches to Nanaimo, whitehorse, dawson I flew last week counted. At the time, all three airports were reporting ifr conditions, enroute weather was imc for at least an hour on each leg onto IAF ,twice in icing conditions, all three were rnav gps approaches cleared by atc or tower. All three were visual (but under 3 mile vis)well before FaF...hmm...all I can say is all three required published approaches, airport lighting systems to complete landings.Dang..I was going to count those three approaches for currency!!Now all I got are the three under foggles under cloudless 90 degree skys done in Sacramento valley!Oh well .at least I can still count the 2 1/2 hours in the clag enroute as actual!...k
  4. i may bring 39 no sink...kpc
  5. Excellent articles,I really enjoy reading this every month..thankyou
  6. aguila dos
  7. careful of the ifr departure out of Heber...it requires more climb abilty than I think a 201 has.
  8. Welcome to localizer performance with vertical guidance approaches...also to T routes and rnav sids and stars....navigation is so much more logical and easier....my home airport has lpv and ils ,but the faa will eventually decomission Ils because they are expensive to maintain!!....
  9. The cracked bulkhead would it but you would also see play in ful down position....Once you remove aft belly panel the ball links should all be checked for play..wear in 3 0r 4 links upstream can add up to a lot of play....Also the Horn on the flap itself...but both at the same time???That would be unusual....k
  10. We hava had good luck with 2 Dahon Mu su folding bikes...20 in wheels, quality components and very light weight..18 lbs.Folded in the travel bags there is no chain mess and use a single derailler for 7 speeds. We did change the seats to wide butted gel type...good for 15 miles out and back with average pedal speeds 10mph...k
  11. No..not unless previous installer mounted a gps input switch as mentioned...the fact that you have both a waas and non waas installed with no crosstalk possible...between the two makes me think this wouldnt be done by any competant shop...should be in your manual though (look for a supplemental added by last installer and a required document).
  12. Quick answer..yes it is worth it
  13. Hey does the engine noise bother the parrots??..could you train them to wear little david clarks??..great video and I miss my african grey,,kpc
  14. Laser in calif will also rent tool...dont forget the "bullet"that comes with the tool or you will never get all the pivot bolts to line up
  15. I use the butt on the door jam brace technique both getting in and getting out....simply arise to a standing position and brace your butt on door jam...looks much cooler than other methods..k
  16. constant use = > TBO
  17. sorry so late to reply..Ive been flying for a week on vacation...I will take a pic and post...my solution puts the hanger facing toward the windshield and hangs the headset over the glare shield...looks better than notars solution and does not pose an impact risk in turbulence (I hit hard enough to break a pair of lightspeed zulus)and requires no drilling and gets the cord away from pilot/copilot so they are not yanked out exiting aircraft..kpc
  18. Damn...just lost one this weekend...called cavaero for replacement....by the way..they are called stall triggers on cavaero s blueprint...k
  19. mw too..two tries but keys donot work...
  20. Sunday we passed like ships in the dark....we flew ifr outbound at 15k and encountered light rime over Salmon vortac...two pretty good cells painting yellow on either side and we passed between in moderate rain that froze on contact...FIKI tks handeled no prob and only 10 min or so...than IFR descent over Bozeman to Livingston.Sunday return was Polson to Ksac direct ,vfr at 10500 due to forcast headwinds...vis dropped to 3miles over Susanville from the fires, but very smooth and only a 10 to 12 kt headwind...one thing I noticed this trip was all the radar outages..Baker city to Boise...salmon to dillon...etc...what gives??
  21. That AI is very expensive to overhaul...I decided to upgrade to a g500 instead
  22. I just use the bluetooth built into headsets
  23. Well thats a relief...as a soon to be remarried Mooney guy...I was getting nervous about whether i needed to add additional aircraft ownership into my prenup.
