  1. Not to mention I bought lots of real estate in 2007 and than sold it all in 2009.....I am doing good tho..I plan to retire in 2035...about 3 years after my average life expectancy
  2. Dang..I did that already...than I put what was left into Kodac color film,a phonograph company, chrysler during the k car era, delta airlines twice..oh and a Mooney
  3. i am based at ksac whose tower is scheduled for final round of closures in may.We have heavy jet traffic ,3 flight schools and 3 intersecting runways...I can just imagine trying to get a void time ifr departure now is going to involve...hopefully no one is going to be scud running and than trying to fly to a fix for an airborne ifr clearance
  4. That would be pretty easy to program for JPI..maybe 15 min of work...however that band should be yellow, not red as in it is a zone that is powered on thru and not a redline like 2700 is...k
  5. Ok I will wayin...my bravo ,serial 0310 prabably built along side 0307 but was not sold or equipped till feb 2001.When I upgraded my factory installed 530/430 units to wass and installed Garmin 600 ,shop knew the 530/430 were not wired right...So I have had the advantage of full turn anticipation all along.I also found a pretty savy young ex airforce instructor to guide me through the glass. As far as the auto pilot..it has worked flawlessly, greatly reducing workload on approaches...it use flying sids and stars in southern calif has made single pilot ifr actually pleasurable.I did replace roll servo that was failing on my first flight home but that was 3 years ago and no further issues...I understand that Honeywell has recommenced 225 production...I think thats a good thing as it is an amazing unit..k
  6. Jose solution is not bad...the epoxy will probably not hold for long...there is a lot of vibration and torque on that visor believe it or not...I would have tried to cut new threads with a tap...somebody probably cross threaded it and than torqued it down
  7. thanks for the cautionary tale....we have all been there
  8. I had the paint codes from the factory and simply ordered smallest quantity of original paint. That way a chip can be built up to original level leading to no paint "crater".Than after a few weeks if you really feeling bored..go back and wet sand with 600 and than power compound for invisable repair
  9. I gave a helicopter ride to a very experienced pilot(fixed wing)he was very interested in the control forces on the bell 47 and asked to take the cyclic stick...ok says I its all yours just be gentle.Well he gets cyclic stick in hand and than does something you never ever ever do in a helicopter...he lets go of stick!!!!!With out his hand on stick the hydraulically boosted controls go into a negative pitch over...why we didnt get a boom strike right than an there I will never Know...real close to strumming harps that day..and when I asked why he let go of stick like that he said he does it in fixed wing a/c to test trim....
  10. hey thanks for sharing...a great story with a sucessful water landing....
  11. hey thats the way i learned to fly...my instructor loved old fashions!!!
  12. back in the 50s i believe a training flight went down with 4 souls aboard during a snowstorm. just south of this latest incident. After weeks of a than massive search (this was a military flight)it was called off.Fast forward over 60 years and some hikers stumbled upon frozen remains of an airman in a receding glacier suposely miles down hill from crash site which hasnt been found..This area is very remote with highest peaks in continental us.The Fossett search occurred in sept with no snow on the ground..and it was two years later his wallet was found leading to crash site
  13. hes got a really impossible schedule...says he needs a 276 nm flight from abq to phx after about 700 pm in feb.Thats so he can leave the bookstore after a meaninful interaction(after work crowd)and make a early morning nyc arrival for another morning bookstore appearance.Even if he had a g4 at his disapposal that is tough to do in winter...he does say he has to feel confident in plane and pilot and I dont blame him.Night IFR in winter over mountainous terrain on a tight schedule is asking for cellestial intervention!!!
  14. well acclaim Ml welcome to mooneyspace you did not do to badly on that enjoying the speed post.Only one really rude misanthrope from some guy whos screen name sounds like a cat hacking up a fur Ball!!Any way i think you wer pretty gracious about the attack on your flying skills and suggusting you go back to basic airmanship.Just be glad you didnt mention whether you were operating lean of peak or that would have started a real cat fight. Its like my dad use to say...opinions are like A**holes and yours stinks!!Enjoy the ride from up high
  15. those look just like the set I got on ebay 3 years ago..look good
  16. what happen to that enormous airport cat that used to hangout arround the terminal...I donated 20 bucks a few xmas back to by him kibble??
  17. there is a much larger presentation of this place on the web that somebody sent me,...in it the narrator describes all the goings on of the citizens of this little world. In one scene it shows a young couple getting frisky in a field of flowers...LOL...this place is quite a tourist trap
  18. It is a sickness..I have never owned an aircraft I have not personally torn apart...engine on a stinson, all the rag on a maule, two engines, props and panel on a Baron, total 1200 hr rebuild on a bell 47,floats on a husky and finally glass panel on a Bravo.Welcome to the madness..you are learning alot
  19. Oh..and my friend who is a corp pilot decided not to fly his turbocharged, pressurized cabin class twin that day ..he went the following morning
  20. exactly right..something made the pilot for go the closer Mammoth pass (maybe he tried it and hit turbulence)and continue north to tioga pass. The owens valley route ,though adding 50 or 60 nm to his routing would have been the safer bet though just as likely to have extreme turbulence and roter spilling over from the remnants of a pacific storm that day. Also I remember checking radar on tuesday for a friend taking a cessna 421 into mammoth that day about 1100 am.Most of the weather had blown over but there was still a large band of reflectivity shaded pink(nexrad code for snow or sleet)about 40 miles long right over Mammoth and Bishop.Another 3 day storm headed their way through sunday.Heavy snowfall expected so if they did not find them today it probably wont be till spring.RIP
  21. hey look at it this way..the mag could have failed at staniel cay or even worse while enroute leading to an extreme case of automatic rough..hope the rest of trip pans out
  22. where i am based if the weather is crummy everybody stays home unless I am going someplace..than because its probably an ifr departure on a schedule I usually am all business and wouldnt take time to talk to any one anyway. As Piloto says ..its the sunny days that all the hangers are open and its airport bum BS time.
  23. oh oh...I have flown that route so many times into Mammoth airport.Since he was coming from the south and presumably entered tioga pass on the north side I am assuming he had a cloud base he was trying to fly under to get to Mammoth.I cannot think of worse terrain to have a forced landing.God Rest his Soul
  24. why not...too many times having to pedal the bike too far
  25. yeah just try bringing up one of those links...you antivirus software will suffer an instant overload while you own computer empties your bank account to an off shore non english speaking clone drug selling cyber dink!!!
