    Lack of power

check prop govenor and control cable throw.
  3. the Bay tour for San Francisco and Lax vfr corridor come to mind. Also that 180 in the video had to be complete within the boundrys of the Hudson...isnt that what got that ball player and his cfi??
  4. Sounds like that 45 min diatribe with a southwest capitan with a hot mike....didnt that get him fired?
  5. so you have the gopro in its waterproof mount with the adhesive base??
  6. I am so guilty of this...I wake up see some weather and most of the time decide to launch early to avoid...maybe its the thought of darkness approaching and being really concerned with night/t cell operations.Any way you made it or should I say ,lucked out....in this case a 5pm departure would have been less stressful...but that is hindsight..the ultimate panel equipment would predict the future..
  7. it was 35 to 50 k and it wasnt just mooneys..also some cessnas were involved....shameful if true..
  8. Mooney too small, pilot too big, passenger too winey
  9. Yeah I saw that...the week in kobe was waiting out north pacific weather of which is notorious I am guessing
  10. 5hrs 17 min to dotted line crossing cabo...great range..your right you could have done that nonstop or diverted to loreto or la paz if winds changed..
  11. I believe the only approachs that do not involve intercepton and tracking is a military PAR approach...I make a point to do at least one approach a month ,winter months usually 3 a month in actual, this month 1 probable in actual to crescent city...than since the weather is so good I just do a ipc with my cfii...ps...last year I got a hold going into Cranbrook bc...I am navigating Gps direct and out of the blue the controller orders a hold on a vor radial....talk about dial twisting on the 530..ha ha....maybe my third hold in 30 years !!So thats why we practice them..
  12. now his location has been in the middle of a river in northern japan..no movement for 24hrs!!Did he forget to charge his tracker!!
  13. Every electrical problem I have had to trouble shoot was always a failure at a switch terminal, crimped splice,multiplug(amphenol/rst)and rarely the component it self...it is just the way we lateral think a problem..being its easier to pull the regulator/alternator and forget trouble shooting the wiring in between...because tracking a chaffed wire bundle rubbing on an engine mount covered with oil and grime..
  14. well as you can see this is an old thread...and after 2 years of ifr use..I still love the display. The transition was handled with an x airforce u2 pilot cfii that reallyhelped me develop a new scan...more like a horizontal line than at or h pattern. While handflying low approaches i use the velocity vector (little green ball with wings)by setting it right where my touch down point will be on the runway depictedon the synthetic vis. This is primary..secondary is hsi display and glidescope diamond...this is all on the left hand primary flight display...the right screen is showing all the waypoints on the approach plus xm weather etc.....it has been very reliable...
  15. THe legs from Northern Japan to adak alaska was the one I was concerned about...instrument approach into adak not that good and not a lot of options in case of a missed..
  16. well looks like he is underway again having left stop 17 Kobe for nothern japan stop 18...that was a long rest stop in Kobe..
  17. Well the unit is out of warrenty so you could ask the shop to disassemble and clean all the different jn connectors...they can get dirty or corroded in humid environment..sometimes all it takes is to unplug and replug connectors between various boards in the unit...Than re install and see if problem persists....If it does ,that is when I would return to Garmin for that 900 amu flat rate repair...kj
  18. Ditto with flightplan.com...routing issued by text message 30 min before departure...but you did correct procedure...just tell them to read the full clearance if you dont have text..
  19. Thanks for the report...sounds like a great trip...next time I would suggust a stop in crescent city ca while enroute to Portland /Seattle....the northern ca /redwoods is so different compared to Eastern Seaboard coast
  20. Hey there is one other going on...Young Jack Weigan in his fathers Ovation....google solo 20.13 his map shows he has been in Japan for about a week...but who knows...good luck on yours Mr Young

  22. By the way thanks for posting that Mooney for rent....as I understand it..it is N registered so my Faa license is all i need..if true that would be a great vacation...Belgium to Nice to Crete/Santorini etc...
  23. Funny Bill..thats the french phrase I use the most!!!
  24. Besides rotating backwards is a standard movement to find TDC during differential conp test..it does no harm to do by hand especially compared to a backfire/preigntion event during a failed start
