  1. Yes and we still change clean vacuum system filters in the cabin every year because of old habits.
  2. I'm in Savannah working. I didn't plan on going this year since work raised its ugly head.
  3. Check with Alan He just parted out a 67F @Alan Fox
  4. I am always glad to see someone wanting to restore a long neglected airplane. Just go in with your eyes open knowing it it will take a lot of time and effort to get the plane in good shape.
  5. sounds like it could be a leak somewhere.
  6. no float charger but I do fly often usually once a week. This instance I had just flown to Houston several days earlier.
  7. Well I'm getting ready to get a new battery for mine. I've had the Gill 7035-28 in my plane for 4 years now. Yesterday's start the prop seemed slow.
  8. flight aware gets some of their info from private people installing ADSB listening posts.
  9. Just wondering f you can reverse it as well?
  10. I just finished building an engine for mine. I had an extra so time was not an issue. I worked with the MX on teardown and to put it together. All the specialized critical tasks were sent out the shops that do that work, cylinders, cranks cases etc. Can Bob fish the engine in his garage or yours's or a patio or carport? That could be an option you don't need much space. Heck you could do it in you living room if no one else in the house objects.
  11. nah it has Garmin radios in it.
  12. call it a landing light we have control over that circuit. I have thought about how to put a light in one of the inspection panels and point it down or point 15 to 45 degrees down from straight ahead.
  13. The good thing about this one is everybody walked off the plane and they flew the plane out a few weeks later.
  14. I would expect to see Snoopy and the red baron on the nose
  15. The landing lights are not required devices in our planes, and the FAA allows us to do anything on that circuit we want under preventive maintenance. Also with the enhanced safety program the FAA is pushing maybe an STC is not needed only the correct owner provided parts to make it happen?? Minor modification rules as well may apply.
  16. I think the Feds have a tax stamp for marijuana that you can get but it does tip them off that you are moving product. At least they can't charge you with not paying the taxes on it.
  17. Kind of like getting busted for not paying sales taxes to gov't when selling drugs.
  18. Did he have part 135 for commercial operations?
  19. Shsssssssss!!! That is an 15lbs of useful load.
  20. I say $20 to $25k max for the plane. You will spend $50k over the next 5 years on the plane for any combination of radios, AP or engine. Get a good PPI (pre-purchase inspection) turn the PPI into an annual. Required in this case so you can fly it home. Start at $30k and negotiate down from there for any airworthy issues found during the PPI this includes AP issues, any AD's not compiled with. Make sure the current owner agrees to this plan if not move on to the next one. Essentially you agree to pay him $30k and you get a flying plane with no airworthy issues and all ADs complied with. The Britain AP parts are hard to come by especially the servo boots so the AP may be toast. A new AP costs plenty. Although it is not necessary it is very nice to have on long flights. The PPI / annual is probably minimum $6k maybe a little higher up to $10k. I am always in favor of someone taking a less than loved plane and bring it back to it's full glory. Has the plane been in a hangar for the past 5 to 10 years? Where is the plane located? Go into this project with you eyes open knowing you will spend money on it.
  21. A few years ago I did a lot of flying from airports at or above 5000' in the Idaho, Montana and Wyoming area. Truly a different feeling for a flatlander. My F model POH only goes up to 5000 for take off. I like the take off configuration note "Gear down,..." Yeah think we would need JATO if we tried taking off with the gear up. Leaning for takeoff power longer ground rolls lower climb rates Flying at 11000 and the rocks still tower above you Taking off at 9000 and the rocks are still above you F model data below
  22. The military does still have a need and use for reciprocating engines in drones.
  23. One is to install a temporary Tee in the line that goes to the pressure gauge. Another method would be to set up a test rig with one of those hand pumps and a separate gauge pump it up to a know value 50, 60 psi and verify the gauge inside it reading the same. I would choose 3 or 4 different pressures to verify the gauge reads accurately over the entire range. You would disconnect oil pressure line form the engine and connect the pump to the line.
  24. I'm not a mechanic but this does not look good. Check with Gary he had a wood wing he was looking to get rid of. @Gary Bymers
  25. Put me down for a set. That should be 36
