  1. I did one flight in a glider about 20 years ago in the finger lakes of NY. somewhat interested in getting glider rating just to say I have it. Closest glider Place I found is 2 hours in the mooney.
  2. I will add that a week or so earlier I had the same trip and I drove instead of flying because of the possibility of ice. I didn't like driving but that was the best option since it was low OVC the whole route and temperatures were cold at ground level. I didn't even look to see where the ice was I figured it would probably be present anywhere above a couple thousand feet.
  3. Resurrecting an old thread but I had my first icing encounter Saturday flying to KLHW. I was at 110 clear sky from KMSY to about 150nm from LHW OAT was 26F. I saw the clouds coming and knew at 090 and below it was clear. Continued on and saw a small amount of ice begin building on the leading edge. I asked ATC for 070 and as I passed 085 ice began to melt off. It was good experience knowing I had a good out.
  4. Without insulation HVAC is a daunting task. It can be done but you will need much larger system.
  5. not this one it was another one the got off topic
  6. I have not been to OSH but have been to SnF several times. There is plenty to do during the day and some activities at night. The key is to camp with the plane it opens up more opportunities. I have flown in and camped solo and sought out new friends. However, the last time I went we had 4 planes and about 12 people. Traveling with a group is more fun since you have a built in group of friends to hang out with.
  7. Will be interesting to see the differences in SnF with Amazon operations there. I'm sure economically it is good for the airport with the increased traffic and the massive amount of jet fuel Amazon prime jets burn getting in and out of there.
  8. I know one in Minneapolis but that's a good distance away.
  9. Pilots and their dogs
  10. For $35 it's worth a try if it fits then order the second one and spruce up your interior some.
  11. What happens in the plane stays in the plane.
  12. OK since the other thread has been locked. Let's keep on track. Several things I have been hearing and want to verify what is going on: Anyone with good information? No vendors will be present??? However, Parker said he was going to be there @Parker_Woodruff This will only be an airshow? Amazon bought the 3 big hangars??? and not going to be used for SNF now or in the future?? SnF rearranging layout to accommodate the lack of the hangars? Will the educational seminars be taking place? I guess if it's only to be an airshow I'm not going. I have several airshows I can go to that are only 1 to 2 Mooney hours away. The airshows are very nice but I like the seminars an the socializing.
  13. Welcome aboard 1352 What model Mooney do you have? Do you have manual or electric gear? Do you have the manuals with the wiring diagrams? These can be real handy troubleshooting.
  14. I'm not sure but I believe Avidyne is making the King GPS for them it's just the IFD540 packaged. So I would suspect there would not be any issues integrating the Avidyne 540 to the King PFD. Just speculation.
  15. It really should be easy for 3rd class. If you wake up drive to the airport walk from your car to the plane get it out, start it up and take off you are good to go.
  16. You can strive to reach true redundancy but in the end there is always a single point of failure. We have one engine and usually one pilot. I guess the goal is to reduce the risk as much as possible.
  17. Funny I like how both men in the plane duck instead of flying the plane. I hate to be a Monday morning quarter back but he could have flown between the trestles and still crashed it would have been more believable. Well I digress and my career as a critic never really took off.
  18. So Cirrus stole the design from Eclipse
  19. The only thing more difficult flying a Mooney over a C172 is putting the gear down unless you have a 172RG then there are not differences if you know how to fly.
  20. I know it is required to have it in the plane. However, how many people have actually used the compass deviation card ever even during PPL training? I can't recall ever using it. I have rarely used the magnetic deviation lines on sectionals since here in New Orleans it is only 1 degree W at the current time. A couple of years ago it was 0 and when I got may PPL it was only 2 maybe 3 E.
  21. Attendance still to be determined if my engine swap is completed. I'm still working on OH of the spare engine but real work is getting in the way.
  22. The engine does not need to come off but it is a PIA to RR and is very tight. If you replace it with the PCU governor the new one goes in much easier.
  23. With standard tanks is is not that big of a deal with one full and one empty. Now if you had the extended range tanks it may cause more issues. I generally run the first tank for 1 hour that gives me right at 10 gallons switch to the second tank and run it as long as needed until it is empty or 30 minutes from my destination which ever comes first. Then switch back to the first tank and get ready to land.
  24. the 149l has extra mounting bosses that may need to be removed for fit. i had to do that on my F.
  25. Wear a mask if you feel you need one. All should not be forced to submit. The death rate for earth is 100% everyone will certainly die. We all want to put the odds in our favor for a long prosperous time here. Should any of us figure out how not to die that could be either a blessing or a curse but that would be up to you to decide.
